goalsarecoolParticipantWhat is the ideal featured image size?

John EzraMemberHi there,
Thanks for writing in! Featured images are fullwidth in single post pages. It would be best to at least have a 1600px with though it may be a good idea to use a 1920px width as HD screens are more of the norm these days. This means highers image sizes which could slow down your page loads if not optimized. Please optimize your images for web use withing your image editor or use an online tool like https://kraken.io/web-interface to optimize your images and bring the file sizes down, with very little loss in quality.
Hope this helps – thanks!

wickbeaversParticipantI’m finding there needs to be a specific ratio between height and width, 2×1 seems to work best. Many of the templates call for 1500 pixels x 750 pixels- while this ratio is good (2×1), the image size ought to be 2400 pixels wide x 1200 pixels high.
After reading info regarding latest Apple retina displays- and to stay ahead of the curve ie. larger higher faster- you ought to consider making your images 2400 pixels wide (1200 pixels high).
Using Photoshop, you’d “export” your properly sized jpg at 72 pixels per inch (2400 pixels x 1200 pixels x 72 pixels per inch (ppi)) and save at around 50% quality, which is undetectable in terms of quality, but will give you a final file size around 750kb.
Pictures sized and compressed like this (color space srgb) will load quickly and look fab.

RadModeratorThanks for sharing Wickbeavers, yes, that’s ideal for Retina display.
