cgWerksParticipantI’m wondering if someone (from Themeco especially) could give a quick benefit/drawback rational for including both Essential Grid and The Grid extensions with X. There would seem to be a lot of overlap, but I’m looking for a bit of direction in which to pick for particular uses, or why Themeco included both.
I haven’t tried to do a side-by-side comparison, but I figure someone at Themeco might have some quite insights. Thanks!

JackKeymasterHi there cgWerks,
Thanks for writing in! You are correct in thinking there’s quite a bit of overlap between the two, really it comes down to a personal choice, we’ve found quite a few favour The Grid over Essential Grid for its customization options and meta key matching, that allows you to show different posts/pages/custom post types based on meta keys.
If you could perhaps describe briefly what you’d like to achieve with your grid that might give a better overview of exactly which option would be right for you. 🙂
Also similar to how Revolution Slider and LayerSlider are included it’s a alternative option which many users like, the ability to pick between two very good plugins, with different user interfaces and experiences with some different options, though the same ultimate goal, in that case sliders.
Thanks!

cgWerksParticipantThe meta key matching thing is the type of info I’m looking for!
My primary uses currently, would be for a podcast feed page and a WooCommerce store section, etc. So, that meta key applies to that, so I guess that makes the decision for me right at the moment. 🙂
But, I’m also wondering in general (as others may be). So, I was kind of hoping to start a thread to draw out some of the distinctions, as I’ll have more uses for other client/internal projects as time goes on. I’m just trying to get a better overview.
What would be great (hint, hint!), would be a KB article that starts listing some of the differences. That would be *really* helpful for this (or the slider example), as when we’re approaching a project, to have a quick-reference of special features or particular limitations, to understand which would better apply, would save a lot of time.
Thanks!

RadModeratorHi there,
For me, Essential grid is more flexible, though more bloated. It comes down to what you wish to achieve, it really depends on that. We don’t have any knowledge about the difference between the two, but you can always check their respective documentation and compare the available features.

cjavierParticipanthaha, i made a dupe thread of this yesterday
I’ve also wanted to know the core differences.
Earlier in this thread, someone mentioned that the grid has meta tags? I believe essential grid has that as well.
Is there any feature list or something that compares which features one has over the other and vice versa??

Rue NelModeratorHello There,
Thanks for updating this thread! Regretfully we do not have a complete feature list that would compare both Essential Grid and TheGrid plugin. For more information about these two, please check out there site respectively.
