    Hi
I’m trying to minimize page size and load time. To do this, I need to serve scaled images. Gtmetrix.com is where you can see all of this type of page info. Envira seems to serve the full size image, rather than the thumbnail, in its galleries. How do I tell Envira to serve scaled images, for instance to serve the thumbnail, not the full size version? I’ve tried changing the row height, but that only has a negligible effect on page size and load time. I’ve tried doing web searches and can’t find a solution anywhere. The comments at the bottom of this thread may make what I’m saying more clear. There was also no response from the plug-in developer in this thread.

    Thanks!

    Hi Brian,

    Thanks for writing in.

Please try changing it at Admin > Envira Gallery > {YOUR EG} > Config > Image Size and set it to smaller one. I just tested it and it’s properly working at least on bundled version.

    Thanks!

I’m using the Automatic gallery setting, and that option is not available. Changing image size is only available if I select a specific number of columns. What can I do?

    Thank you

    Hi there,

I like to see how’s the automatic gallery is setup. Would you mind providing us with login credentials so we can take a closer look? To do this, you can make a post with the following info:

    – Link to your site
    – WordPress Admin username / password

Don’t forget to select Set as private reply. This ensures your information is only visible to our staff.

    Thanks!

I think I found the solution. To set the thumbnail size in the CSS for Envira Automatic galleries:

Select a number of columns (doesn’t matter how many)
Select the Image Size (as thumbnail)
    Select Set Dimensions on Images
    Save
    Switch gallery type to Automatic
Set the Row Height you desire (a size at or near the thumbnail size)
    Save again

The thumbnail will now be used instead of the full size version and page speed sites like gtmetrix.com will show the page as serving scaled images.

(I did have one gallery that didn’t technically show as serving scaled images on gtmetrix.com, but it still had a small page size and high overall score.)

I’ve done a bit more research and it turns out the above method doesn’t actually work for serving scaled images. I was getting false readings from gtmetrix.com I guess. But it can at least help dramatically improve page speed score.

    Hi there,

I just checked and it’s working, would you mind clarifying what kind of scaled images you’re trying to achieved? Small but scaled, or big but scaled? It’s different from small but cropped, and big but cropped.

    Thanks!

I get a score of F on Serve Scaled Images on gtmetrix.com (a site that tells you how a web page is performing). See attached image. So no it is not working with the Automatic galleries (the column galleries do serve scaled images, however).

    Any ideas?

This particular issue has nothing to do with image cropping.
