AlexParticipantHello team,
I’m trying to get ess. grid up but I keep running into an error. Whenever I click save it says “empty ajax response!”. I’ve already tried deactivating all plugins and this is a fresh wordpress install.
Please help

RahulModeratorHey Alex,
Thanks for writing in! After reviewing the information provided above, I would try checking with your hosting provider on this particular issue as it sounds like something related to your setup is causing this. Typically, this is due server configuration problems (i.e. underpowered, traceroute issues, packet loss, permissions errors, et cetera). Additionally, your host will be able to diagnose things much better due to the fact that they have a more complete view of your account and can work behind the scenes with you. If the problem you are experiencing persists after working with your host, don’t hesitate to let us know and we will be happy to assist you. Any relevant information that you can share with us from your host is also greatly appreciated as it will help us to better ascertain the source of the problem.
Thanks!

webCr-8ParticipantHi all,
I’m running a local WP installation for developemnt and I’m also running into this issue. As soon as I try to save my first essential grid I get an error: “Empty Ajax response”. As this is my first WordPress site I’m not completely sure what the Ajax response is supposed to retrieve, but my best guess is Post data.
First I’ve tried disabling all other plugins without luck.
Then I checked The Grid to see if that’s working and it is, with all other plugins enabled.
I’ve been able to get ‘The Grid’ running without any issues. After that I’ve opened the Chrome debugger to see if I can find anything and other than requests to admin-ajax.php I couldn;t find anything. The responses to those request were either empty or {wp-auth-check: true}.
Finally I’ve turned on WP debugging mode and received database errors in the response on admin-ajax.php requests. Edit: in the WP admin section when trying to save a new Essential Grid I now get the error: “Ajax Error!!! parseerror”
Screenshots from debugger and phpmyadmin attached.
I imagine I could create the columns defined in the error, but being new to WP and mySQL, I’d rather consult an expert.
So any advice?Any help?

DarshanaModeratorHi there,
What’s your PHP version? Make sure that you’re running at least PHP 5.6 or above to avoid most of the common issues.
You can check your setup by installing WP Serverinfo plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-serverinfo/).
Let us know.
Thanks!May 30, 2016 at 10:32 am #1016649
webCr-8ParticipantHi Darshana,
Thx for the quick reply. I was running PHP 5.5 and using AMPPS I’ve switched both to 5.6 and 7.0 (both checked with WP Serverinfo) with no success.

webCr-8ParticipantQuick update: I’ve created the required db columns manually, and now it is sort-of working. I can save stuff now, but this solution does not allow me to use the presets and throws errors all over the place.A better solution would be appreciated.
Nvm not working

LelyModeratorHi There,
Do you have different prefix for your tables in the database? The table names for Essential Grid are always the same and will not change (unless the plugin’s developer does so). This will happen usually if you have different table prefixes and essential grid are looking for the default table names with wp_ prefix. Although I found one instance wherein the table was created but empty. We have forwarded this issue to the developer for more testing. Just to clarify, in your case the tables is not totally created? Or is it created with just different tables prefix? For the mean time, please check this thread:https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/essential-grid-has-no-skin-options

webCr-8ParticipantHi Lely,
Thank you very much for that link, downloading the provided dropbox .sql file and adding my own prefix solved the problem!
Just for your\plugin dev bugfixing information: in my case the tables were created (with the correct prefix), however not with the correct indices and columns. Also there were no entries in the tables (probably because columns and indices were missing).
Edit: might I suggest that you add the link to that post to the Essential Grid KB entry https://community.theme.co/kb/integrated-plugins-essential-grid/ . That might help other with similar ajax response \ parsingerror problems more quickly
