Hi,
I am using your Mailchimp extension for a newsletter sign-up box. See here: http://mumby.prohealthsites.org/newsletter/
I have turned off double opt-in AND email confirmation. See here: http://screencast.com/t/PsGMbQhbXz
BUT, I am still getting confirmation emails upon testing.
These same settings worked for me on a different site I manage. Any idea why it’s not working the same here?
Thanks
March 3, 2015 at 5:22 am #219123Hi there,
Please clear cache on both site and browser and test again.
Thank you.
March 3, 2015 at 6:31 am #219159Yeah, I did try that. I also tried running a test in a Chrome incognito window and still got the confirmation email.
March 3, 2015 at 9:15 am #219295Hi there,
Thanks for updating the thread! I know you tried clearing your cache, but could you please try deactivating it completely while developing. It is still showing as running on your site. You could also try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.
Let us know how that goes. Hope this helps – thanks!

Thanks for writing in! Please refer to this post on how to implement that feature (https://theme.co/x/member/forums/topic/mailchimp-extension-single-opt-in/#post-156621).
After adding the code mentioned above, make sure to enable Opt-In New Users under Addons > Email Forms > General Settings as shown here (http://prntscr.com/67l63s).
Hope that helps.
March 4, 2015 at 1:42 am #219867Hi there,
Yes, I actually did follow the steps in the post you referenced.
1) Here is the code that I added to my child theme: http://screencast.com/t/qq06RBjGkvlC
2) Here you can see that “opt-in new users” is selected: http://screencast.com/t/1Ko8Yck3bCF
PLEASE WATCH THIS (here I show exactly what happens when a user opts in): http://screencast.com/t/QJciWFmupW
As you can see, this DOES allow for single opt-ins BUT it still sends a confirmation email telling the new subscriber that he/she was added to the mailing list even though I have selected to turn this feature OFF. See here: http://screencast.com/t/FyQk7Lk1
Any ideas as to why this would happen?
March 4, 2015 at 6:12 pm #220504Hi there,
The confirmation email is just a notice that you successfully subscribed to the listing. It’s like a thank you message. Given than there is “Unsubscribe here”, this means that subscription is successful without needing a user to confirm it (double opt-in requires email confirmation before they can be added to the listing). This means, single opt-in works and what you just see is like a welcome or thank you message.
There are actually different kind of confirmation based from that option. And as far as I know, mailchimp will always send email about successful subscription even from single opt-in or double opt-in ( 2 emails actually – 1 confirmation, 1 thank you/welcome/successful email ). And it’s normal to send people a final email where they can unsubscribe if they don’t want to be listed anymore.
In short, we can’t remove that Thank you/Successful subscription email since it’s part of mailchimp system itself.
Thanks!
March 4, 2015 at 9:17 pm #220599Hmmmm…I appreciate the response but I’m not sure I completely agree…
Yes, the confirmation email does indicate that subscription was successful, but that email is definitely NOT required.
1. I have your Extension working on another X site without any confirmation message being sent
2. I use 2 other WP plugins that also allow for single opt-in with no confirmation from Mailchimp
It can be done, but there is something that is causing that confirmation email to trigger in this specific circumstance. Sorry, I don’t mean to be a pain…I just know your plugin DOES work really well on my other site and I’d like to replicate that success on my new site.
Is there anything else I can do to help get to the bottom of this?
Thanks for all your time
March 5, 2015 at 1:23 pm #221108Hi there,
In that case, would you mind providing your other site that isn’t sending some confirmation? You can provide your login too in private so we can test.
I’m not really sure with that, but all my mailchimp setup send success email to subscriber.
Thanks!

March 5, 2015 at 8:46 pm #221408Thanks James!
I did try that as well with no luck. I just reverted back to using the Mailchimp For WP Pro plugin. I was hoping to get away from it since it’s not as easy to style, BUT it does do single optins very well 🙂
Thanks for the help everyone
March 6, 2015 at 1:36 am #221515You’re welcome 😉 but I’d like to check it still. So maybe I’ll add this on my todo list. Thanks!
