The short version of a long story is:
I deleted my Localhost X-Theme Dev site while reformatting my system (I thought I had a backup, but I didn’t, yada yada).

So, I’m writing as I want to attempt to restore ONLY the theme customisations, custom css, and whatever else I need to restore my customised layout. I don’t need any of the pages, content, Menu, etc – that was just all test content.

Can you give me a list of the bare minimum files that would allow me to restore the Theme as I had customised it?

I was building from Ethos 2 demo content.

    Thanks,

    Morgan

    Hi Morgan,

Sorry to hear that. It’s hard to say which files you need to recover since some files might depends on other and I don’t think you will be able to recover the Customizer settings which is more important. I’d suggest you to do a fresh installation because if you somehow can recover the files, some files still might be missing that might cause problem in future. So a fresh installation should be done.

    Cheers!

Thanks Rupok, I appreciate that’s a SAFE answer, but I’d respectfully ask for someone to give me a more informed one (which is why I’m bothering to ask here in the first place) 🙂 . Thanks again

    Hi there,

Do you have backup from your database?
If so, please install wordpress and x and then import data base.
To restore customizer settings, you should import .xcs file under X addons page. If you don’t have backup from customizer, I’m sorry there is no way to retrieve it and you need to customize theme from scratch.

    Hope it helps.

Um, no it doesn’t help – did you read my post?

I need to restore files from a formatted Hard Drive – it hasn’t been touched, so the files are still there, I just need to search and restore them (I’ve done it before).

So, yes, there is actually a DEFINITE way to restore them, in fact I could restore all files, yet that would be very time consuming.

I’m asking for a list of the specific files to restore.

Can someone please answer my, actual, query?

As previously said, you will need the .XCS file. That is the exported Customizer file that is if you have exported the settings before you reformatted your hard drive (see https://community.theme.co/kb/customizer-manager/). If you don’t have that, there is no way to restore the Customizer settings and you will need to start from scratch if you have CSS added in the Customizer.

If you’re looking for your child theme files, search for all .php, style.css, and screenshot.png files under the wp-content\themes\x-child directory.

There are no files other than that.

    Thanks.
