    Hi,

There I was, minding my own website when all the formatting I meticulously had set up in X’s Global CSS disappeared. The Global Custom JS remained.

I’ve set up an X Child theme, and checked its CSS style sheet. It was blank; as was the X’s Main theme style sheet. I’ve gone the usual route of deactivating the plugins, but it had no effect. I have no idea what could delete or corrupt these style sheets, and fear they have been lost. But how?

Is there any way to restore their contents?

I’m developing on a local server which unfortunately is unreachable, and running WP 4.5.2; X 4.4.2; and Cornerstone 1.2.4

    Hoping you can help.

    Cheers!

    Andrew

    Hello Andrew,

Thanks for the clarifications! Regretfully we cannot login to your site because it only resides in your localhost and it is now accessible outside your home network.

Here’s the this, The order of the css styling in X is this:
    – parent theme’s styling
    – child theme’s styling,
    – customizer’s custom css styling
    – Cornerstone’s page styling

So if you may have added any styling, please check it where did you add it or there might be some other styling that blocks or override your global custom css styling.
    Hope this explains it.

    Hi Rue,

    Thanks for the update.

Irrespective of the overriding CSS styling order, the entire CSS styling in the Global CSS was lost – the sheet was empty. I’ve put this down to corruption somewhere in the system and have rebuilt it. To guard against a recurrence, I make regular backups of the Global CSS sheet.

However, will an update of X delete all styling in the Child theme and Customizer’s Global Style sheets?

    Thanks for your input.

    Cheers!

    Hi Andrew,

Yes, keeping a regular backup of your site is a good practice just in case you’ll need it. Updating the parent theme should not have any effect in the CSS styles added in the child theme’s style.css file and the customizer’s Custom CSS area. But, it’s best to backup your site before doing an update.

    Hope this helps.
