I have created a number of custom post types. Then I customized breadcrumbs.php to work properly with these post types. I would like to keep the breadcrumbs.php file in my child theme so it is not overwritten when I update X, but it doesn’t seem that they work that way. I have them in the same directory as they would be in the X theme, but in my child theme and updates in the child theme don’t seem to work.

Is there a way to keep the breadcrumbs.php file in my child theme and have X use that file?

This is where the files are located.
themes/x/framework/functions/global/breadcrumbs.php
themes/x-child/framework/functions/global/breadcrumbs.php

Thanks for posting in.

You don’t need to copy the file breadcrumbs.php to your child theme. It’s not a template but just function file. And to override codes from function files, then you’ll just need to copy and paste to your child theme’s functions.php

Example, you can just copy this whole block to your child theme’s functions.php
