I created a convertplug info bar to collect opt ins for a free gift.
When I created the bar I started with the provided template “Free Trial” and then made a lot of changes to it.
Now I want to create a “variant” to split test different versions of my own bar.
I’m assuming that’s what variants are for, right? to create slightly different versions of the same bar so that I can test what converts better…?
Sadly, there’s not a single article in the ConvertKit knowledge base with the search term “variant”…

Here’s the problem:
When I create a variant of my info bar, instead of making a copy of my existing bar, Convertplug creates a NEW bar based on the original “free trial” template, which doesn’t make sense because then I have to create my bar (all colors, copy, graphics, behavior) all over again.

Is this behavior intended (that would be strange) or is this an error? Unfortunately I couldn’t find any documentation of this feature….

Sorry, my bad, I found it one minute after posting this…. grrr….
I was fooled by the big blue “create a new variant” button, which does exactly that, create a NEW variant.
In order to create a variant that is a copy of an existing variant one needs to use the little “duplicate modal” buttons…
I would say the UI could be improved here because in most cases people will want to create a variation of an existing modal so that could be a little more obvious to find 😉

Thanks for updating us. Yes, you’re correct. If you have customize a template and want create another one from that customize one, we have to click duplicate icon.
