I’ve looked up and down the Contact Form 7 & wordpress forums & found a few helpful articles but nothing definitive (either that or I’m doing it wrong). So I figured I’d give this forum a quick try (if you can’t help I understand). I’m trying to get the piping feature to preselect certain dropdowns when clicked on from buttons or other pages. Such as “Investor Center” link on the footer menu preselect “Investment Information” on the contact page.

I did check your site but then it seems that X theme is not active. I can’t even see the contact form based on what you have provided on your post.

unfortunately the above solution didn’t work the way I was hoping. I found this article but every time I add the default – values it hides the select box on the form http://contactform7.com/getting-default-values-from-the-context/
To be specific I’m trying to get this form to preselect “investment-relations” when someone clicks on investor center at the footer & preselect “website issues” when someone is on the 404 page and clicks “contact us”

Unfortunately, this falls outside the scope of support we can offer. You may wish to consult a developer to assist you with this. X is quite extensible with child themes, so there are plenty of possibilities. Thanks for understanding. Take care!
