PersimmonDesignParticipantHello,
I feel like no matter how much documentation I read I don’t 100% understand when I should use the child theme and when I should. I’ve made some simple css changes to the X theme (text color, line height ect.) but I’m curious if my client upgrades the site in the future if all those changes would be lost?
Please advise,
Thank you

RahulModeratorHey there,
Good question. One good practice : Always use chid theme.
Whenever you make changes to the main theme, update takes them all away because it basically replaces old files to the new ones and the customization is lost.
I hope this will help

PersimmonDesignParticipantThank you. However, I am nearly done with the site design using the X theme.
Can you suggest some options for me to apply the child theme now?
Is it possible for me to copy the css folder then replace it with the css folder in the Child Theme directory?
Thank you

John EzraMemberHi there,
Thanks for updating the thread! If you made your changes via CSS only and it is found in the customizer only, you should be okay unless something goes wrong during an update and the customizer gets reset. It’s always best to export your customizer settings. Now as mentioned before it is best practice to use a child theme.
If you did not edit PHP files then all you would need is to copy/move your CSS from the customizer to the Child theme’s style.css file.
That should do it! If you run into issues, do let us know. Hope this helps – thanks!
