Hello 🙂

I can’t understand why nothing happens when I try to change “Excerpt length” in the Customizer. The length is the same on the posts no matter what number I write. I’ve try writing everything from 1 to 1000. But nothing happens – the length stays the same. Do I do something wrong?

Hey Mette,

Thanks for writing in! Have you modified the theme in any way? Also, are you writing your own custom excerpt for your posts, or are you just letting your post content show up on the blog index page? Once we know a little more with what you’re trying to do we’ll be able to look into this a little more thoroughly.

Hey Mette,

I logged in and took a look at things and this is most interesting as everything appears to be in order for this to work. I did notice that you’re not using the most recent version of the theme (v1.7.5) or the shortcode plugin (v2.0.8). Could you try updating those to see if that resolves anything? Make sure to follow the steps on updating these in the Knowledge Base as it will help you to avoid any potential errors. I am also noticing that you have quite a few third party plugins installed on your site. Please try disabling these one at a time and then trying out the setting in the Customizer to see if this changes anything as it could be related to a conflict with one of these. If the problem still persists after doing all of the previously mentioned tasks, please provide us with your FTP credentials below so that we can check out some things on your server (don’t forget to select Set as private reply so that your information remains hidden).

YAY!! It worked 🙂 It was a plugin that was the trouble. THANK YOU SO MUCH! 🙂

Regarding the update I’m afraid to do it. I’m quite new in all this. I’ve early used a standard WP-theme and only done small changes myself. But when I saw X I just had to jump right into it! And I’m learning a lot from using the X theme and you guyes 🙂 I’m so grateful!

Regarding the update I’m therefore on deep water. I can’t seem to figure out how to export the changes I’ve done in parent themes customizer. I’ve seen the great video guide how to install a child theme, so that seems easy 😉 But because I can’t figure out to do the step with the export I can’t install a child theme. So I’m kind of stuck 🙁

Can you maybe help me with some guidelines?

How to export my changes in my parent themes customizer? And get it back into a child theme when I’ve installed that?

And where do I get the short code plugin you mention?

Sorry, I’m such a rookie! You guys have done an AMAZING job building the theme! I really appreciating it!

Hey Mette,

First off, always backup your site regularly even if you don’t make changes.

I recommend you use Duplicator http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/

Guidelines:

1. Go to Customizer -> Export (see http://prntscr.com/31e5su)
2. Download XCS file http://prntscr.com/31e61r
3. You’ll get a .json file http://prntscr.com/31e6bt
4. Download child theme http://prntscr.com/31e6ns. You’ll get all the stack child themes
5. Extract the one for your stack http://prntscr.com/31e72y
6. Install the child theme like how you installed and activated the parent
7. Download the latest version of X http://prntscr.com/31e7rz
8. Delete the old X theme
9. Install the new one BUT don’t activate
10. Go to Customizer -> Import http://prntscr.com/31e9te
11. Upload the exported .json file http://prntscr.com/31ea7p
12. Download the latest X Shortcodes http://prntscr.com/31easa then delete the old X Shortcodes plugin and install the new one.
