I recently took over a site askcoachtom.com and could not use the visual composer that was installed because it crashed with the newer version of WordPress. I have purchased a standalone version of visual.composer however their support says I can not activate it because there is coding in the X theme that is blocking it. Can you please help.

Please use Visual Composer plugin that comes bundled with X to avoid compatibility issues
You can install it via Addons after you have validated your theme.

Upon checking, I can see you are using a very old version of the theme.
Please create a full back-up of your site and update your theme and plugins to latest version.

Curious, because I was not the original person to purchase the theme for this site as I just took it over as Web designer am I going to have to purchase another license to upgrade as I do not have the purchase codes.

In this case, you need to manually install a required plugin. The plugins are included with your download of X.
They are located in X.zip\x\framework\plugins.Kindly select a required plugin file from the Plugins folder and put it on the desktop. Go to your WordPress Dashboard>> Plugins>> Add New>> Browser .zip file of a required plugin>> Install
