    Hey guys,

I’m working on a page and it has a background movie:

    Music

I’m looking over the page on various devices and it looks good on desktop; the movie is showing up. And on a mobile as well. But when I look over the above page on my laptop computer (running a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (same as my desktop workstation) only the video placeholder image is showing up.

I’ve checked it in both firefox and in chrome and the same problem presests in both browsers.

    Thanks for the help!

    John

    Hi John,

Is your laptop by any chance a touch device?

    Let us know,

Yes it is a touch device.

And just an update the background video is also not showing up on my mobile phone either.

    Hi There,

Background videos are disabled for mobile devices due to some reasons including that they are bandwidth hungry. We instead encourage users to use a poster image that is to show on mobile devices instead of the video.

    Thanks.

    Hi John,

Just like on mobile devices, background videos will not work on hybrid devices. Desktop is detected with screen size and no-touch functionality, but mobile can just be detected by touch functionality since there are mobiles that higher resolution than a desktop. Means, hybrid devices is harder to detect if it’s really a desktop or mobile. What you could do is disable touch features on your laptop.

Hummm…. well the thing about turning off my touch is it only really effect my local PC.

So what your saying is there is no way to do background video inside of X on a mobile or touch device? There is no work around or !important on it to make it show up in any way?

    Hi John,

You can add your video as a video layer instead of background to make sure it also shows in mobile.

    Hope that helps.

Yeah but what if its just a design element and not really informational.

So I know you guys listen to the community so I would like to throw my 2 cents in on this officially and say that the user should be able to pick how and when to use the video in the bg of a section. Even for mobile.

With that being said I think that if you took a poll of web designers that use X you would find that most of them use this theme in a higher end design jobs. With that being said just making the the choice for us to accommodate the bottom 15% of the internet feels a bit…. “BEST PRACTICE OR ELSE!!!!!” Lol, just take it under consideration thx.

    Hi John,

We certainly appreciate the feedback! This is something we can add to our list of feature requests. This way it can be taken into consideration for future development. All of these items are discussed with our team internally and prioritized based on the amount of interest a particular feature might receive. Thanks!
