cgenselParticipantHello,
I have a question about images with multiple hot spots. I have an image of a map which has different sections labeled on it- I would like to make each label a hotspot link to the page about that section. I looked through old forum questions about hotspots…from the older posts it looks like there is no support for hotspots within X itself but that third party plugins are an option.
There is one newer post that delved into something more complicated than I could completely follow- custom CSS on an existing image with hotspots. While I understood the CSS to add in Cornerstone I didn’t follow the original creation of the hotspots on the image.
Can you please let me know any updated information you have about hotspots and X? Is there a recommended 3rd party plugin that works well with X for this purpose? Or is there another workaround to achieve the same results I need?
For reference, I’m trying to recreate the functionality of the clickable map at this URL from our old website: http://thehaw.org/Paddle_trail/RiverSections.html
Thank you for your help,
-K

cgenselParticipantAddendum to question:
*Typo: I could NOT completely follow the instructions from the previous thread.
Also, if this involves CSS customization as suggested in the previous thread, is this sufficient customization to necessitate use of a child theme? Or can this be accomplished without (ideally)?
Thanks,
-K

ChristianModeratorHey K,
This would require custom setup from the user or a third party developer. A child theme is not necessary but is recommended for preserving your customizations. You might want to contact our trusted partners who caters X setup and customization needs. Please see https://community.theme.co/custom-development/
We haven’t tested any plugins for this so we couldn’t recommend.
Thank you for understanding.

Rue NelModeratorHello There,
Thanks for the updates! Child themes simply inherit all the settings and all the features you have in the parent theme. We have suggested that you use a child theme because it allows you to make code changes that wonβt be overwritten when an X update is released. After your child theme is setup, please review how we recommend making template changes in Customization Best Practices.
I would highly recommend that before switching to a child theme, you must backup your customizer settings and download the XCS file from the customizer manager in X Addons > Customizer Manager. And to know more about the customizer, please check it here: https://community.theme.co/kb/customizer-manager/
Hope this helps.

ChristianModeratorHey K,
1. Cornerstone does not involve modifying template files so, no.
2. The interface is the same. You will need to backup your Customizer settings in the parent theme first then import it once the child theme is installed (see https://community.theme.co/kb/customizer-manager/). Your widgets will also reset so you’ll need to set them up again.
3. Yes
4. No
Generally, it is best to use a child theme because as your site grows, you might need custom development.
Hope that helps. π

cgenselParticipantHi Christian,
Thank you so much for the clear concise replies, very helpful. It looks like adding a child theme “just in case” is a good idea for the future so I’ll do it now before I’m sunk in too far π I appreciate the clarifications.
Thanks for the great help,
K

cgenselParticipantThanks Joao,
The Image Map Pro for Cornerstone plugin resolved my needs and is working well so far.
