Theme quit working

My website is not working after three years. I can not get Xtheme to validate. This is the message I get: We’ve checked the code, but it doesn’t appear to be an Cornerstone purchase code or Themeco license. Please double check the code and try again.

Hi,

You might have a really old version of the theme. If that’s the case you need to update it manually using FTP.

Please check Manual update section on the link below.

After that review the link belowfor your guide on how to validate your theme.

Please don’t forget to create full backup of your site before updating.

Thanks

This is what i followed and it crashed my site. now Xtheme is gone and my site is down.

If i try to reload xtheme this is the error I get: Unable to create directory uploads/2019/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?
But there is no way to respond

Hi There @Tagdog

You can see the required WordPress file permissions here (https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions). If your changes not getting affected, please contact your hosting provider to resolve the issue.

By the way, you need the latest version of X theme and Cornerstone plugin to run your validation for the first time. You can download the latest version of X theme from your Enavato account and re-install your X theme by simply deleting the existing X theme. All your current data will be saved in the database.

For validation to function correctly, you need PHP cURL extension enabled on your server and also make sure that your server’s firewall is not disabling requests from theme.co. You can see our troubleshooting guide here (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-validation-connection-issues/201).

Also make sure that you’re using PHP v5.6.x or later to avoid incompatibility issues.

If you require further assistance, provide us with your WordPress credentials along with your FTP credentials in a secure note to investigate your issue further.

Thanks!

I have tried to load a brand xtheme and it locks me up.

Hello @Tagdog,

Thanks for updating the thread.

I checked the website and can see that you are using X Theme version 5.1.1 and Cornerstone 3.2.5. Please try out following:

Install Theme from WordPress backend

  1. From Appearance > Themes activate a different theme.
  2. Delete X Theme.
  3. Download latest version of X Theme and upload the same using WordPress theme uploader.
  4. If everything goes well and theme is uploaded then activate the theme.

In case above step is giving issues then upload Theme files using FTP

  1. Using FTP software like Filezilla connect to FTP.
  2. Download latest version of X Theme and extract/unzip the files.
  3. Under /wp-content/themes/ upload the extracted file.
  4. Login WordPress backend and under Appearance > Themes activate X Theme.

I am sharing few resources that you can refer to get started.

Unable to create directory uploads/2019/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server? this is the error I get.

Hello @Tagdog,

The given ftp credentials is not working for us.
Could you please double check it so that we can log in and investigate the file permissions in your WordPress installation folder?

Thanks.

Hi There,

I’ve signed in to your sFTP account and manually updated your X theme & Cornerstone plugin.

Right now, you can login to your website and validate it.
