Performance issues

Hi there. I have multiple websites that use Pro and we’re having some issues with only one site.

On this staging site: wordpress-100914-329432.cloudwaysapps.com

A. Notice how when the page has completed loading, start scrolling down. Before the javascript & CSS kicks in for the hamburger menu, notice the significant lag between Section 1 & 2.

B. In addition, when going to pages like http://wordpress-100914-329432.cloudwaysapps.com/x/#/content/10 and making a random change then saving it, the progress bar on top freezes right before completing. However, it does indeed save when you force refresh and opt to proceed without saving.

C. Finally, when going to pages like http://wordpress-100914-329432.cloudwaysapps.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=278&action=edit and making a random change and then updating it, it never completes loading. However, it does indeed save when you force refresh.

Could you help us figure out what’s going on and how to address this? Many thanks in advance

Hi there,

A) I noticed that and it’s due to Layer Slider in the first section along with SuperFly menu. When I paused the layer slider, it starts scrolling smoothly (there is a pause icon beside bulllet’s pagination). Try using rev slider instead.

B) and C) I can confirm those. Would you mind providing your FTP login credentials as well?

Thanks!

A) I don’t mind changing to Rev Slider but if possible, I’d like to use it. Would you recommend anything else that can be done to address this issue? And why is it that LayerSlider does this but not Slider Revolution? Just curious

EDIT: I just tried duplicating it using Slider Revolution and got the same results: http://wordpress-100914-329432.cloudwaysapps.com/home-2/
any advice?

B & C) I just added the FTP information.

Hi there,

It saves and load now pretty fast, though, there are moments that it still slow. Which could be related to the first issue.

It looks like there is a script that is periodically executing resulting to sluggish scrolling, I disabled all the plugins and removed some content and it still the same.

I created a new page and there is no sluggish issue, which means, the culprit is on your home page content. It’s because when I removed slider, video, testimonial, and superfly, and custom javascript (as in clean except home page content) but the issue still persist. Could you try creating your home page again from scratch? Then add them and test each content one by one to see what’s causing it.

Thanks!

Hey Rad, thanks. While I do that, what about the saving issue for the Event? This is unrelated to the homepage but I get the same problem there when I try to save.

Hey Rad, quick update. I just tried recreating the page from bottom up and I believe the Raw Content module is causing it. Here is what I did here: http://wordpress-100914-329432.cloudwaysapps.com/home-4

  1. Create brand new page. Checked = OK
  2. Apply proper Header and Footer in header and footer builder. Checked = OK
  3. Added all 5 sections. Checked = OK
  4. Created the first section by adding the slider, setting margins, etc. Checked = OK
  5. Created the Section 2 Row 1 by adding the Custom Headline and Text modules. Checked = OK
  6. Created the Section 2 Row 2 by splitting 3 columns, adding modules and then copy and pasting the code from /home. Checked = The page is now sluggish.

Hi there,

Which event page? You mean the Event post types? I just tried it here http://wordpress-100914-329432.cloudwaysapps.com/event/ladies-luncheon/ and it works.

And yes, when I removed the second section, it starts working smoothly. I think it’s because of content_band shortcodes, the content_band is a section, but for the visual composer. So it’s like you have sections within sections. And each section is connected to javascript (especially to background parallax) and that causes conflict with animation and it freezes. How about using grid plugins? You can use their skin builder to create something like that, and you can use the custom source as your items (instead of post types) https://www.themepunch.com/essgrid-doc/core-anatomy-of-an-essential-grid/#custom-grid

Thanks!

Hi Rad. Thanks so much for that information. I did not know that about content_bands. I’m going to try something else and report back if there any issues.

As for the saving issue, I understand that the homepage was having issues saving but I also see the same problem on pages like /messages when I use Pro page builder.

This also happens when I go to pages like http://wordpress-100914-329432.cloudwaysapps.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=278&action=edit and try to Update it. The loading never ends.

Hey Rad,

Thank you again for your input on the content_band. I’ve changed the area and now the sluggishness no longer persists.

However, I am still having the saving issue as mentioned above on the /messages page and /post.php?post=278&action=edit pages.

I also thought that after addressing the content_band items, that the saving issue on the homepage would be resolved but I’m actually still having the same saving issue on the homepage too. I’ve created a second staging site just for this issue: http://wordpress-100914-331072.cloudwaysapps.com/

Hi there,

Would you mind providing a video recording of that saving issue? I tried it and saves okay, you can check it here http://wordpress-100914-329432.cloudwaysapps.com/x/#/content/278 and http://wordpress-100914-329432.cloudwaysapps.com/event/stewardship-banquet/. Check out the content under the image, I added them through the builder ( http://wordpress-100914-329432.cloudwaysapps.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=278&action=edit )

Thanks!

Hey Rad. Sure. I just recorded two videos and uploaded them as media files to the site in question (the second one above).

The first video shows the saving issue using Pro page builder: http://wordpress-100914-331072.cloudwaysapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/video.mov

The second video shows the saving issue whenever saving a post, page, event: http://wordpress-100914-331072.cloudwaysapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/video2.mov

Hi there,

I checked your recorded video and found out we were checking the wrong site and you meant the second staging website which you gave us the credentials in the secure note.

I checked the builder and could not find the exact cause of the problem. But I have some probable causes on my mind which I will share with you:

  • Kindly purge the cache and avoid using cache plugins during the development as it may cause unexpected results.

  • If you use cache, optimizing or security plugins make sure that the plugins do not minify the CSS/JS assets as our theme already does that and double minification can cause problems.

  • Check for 3rd party plugins by deactivating them and try to save content in the builder to see if there is any kind of conflict between 3rd party plugins.

  • Contact your hosting service provider and ask them to remove Pro Builder related URLs, The ones such as www.yourwebsite.com/x/ from their mod_security rules.

  • Make sure that you have enough PHP memory limit by increasing it using the wp-config.php file on your Wordpress installation root folder:

  • Check the Popular Questions below:

Hope it helps.

Whenever I set my Jquery settings to defer to improve load speed my slider loads then disappears. How do i add an exception for this script? I am using async javascript plugin and just need to add an exception for the slider. My homepage is www.handhblog.com Thanks.

Hi,

Regretfully, we cannot provide support for third party plugins or scripts as our support policy in the sidebar states due to the fact that there is simply no way to account for all of the potential variables at play when using another developer’s plugin or script. Because of this, any questions you have regarding setup, integration, or troubleshooting any piece of functionality that is not native to X will need to be directed to the original developer.

You can get support for that plugin from the link below

Thank you for your understanding.
