How to add captions to photo embeds

Hello Support, I have switched to SmugMug as photo host for my X-Theme Ethos site.

I wish to add captions that display in my blog posts the same way as captions entered from photos that are in the media library, including the thin lined box around the photo.

How can I do this?

Cheers, Van

Hi Van,

Thanks for writing in! Regretfully this isn’t a feature offered by X. It could be possible with custom development, but this would be outside the scope of support we can offer. You may wish to consult a developer to assist you with this. X is quite extensible with child themes, so there are plenty of possibilities.

Thanks for understanding. Take care!

Hello Paul, thank you for your reply. If not offering this feature is a regret, then please look into adding it.

I do understand this is not a canned feature of the X theme, but surely the idea of putting captions on an embedded photo on a WP blog is not such an exotic idea that it requires hiring a developer?

Can I use a shortcode? I tried this for example, but it doesn’t work:

Hello @XVan,

Thanks for updating the thread.

I am sorry for the confusion. As mentioned by my colleague it’s not a featured offered by X Theme. However, while searching on the internet I came across a resource that should meet your requirement.

I suggest you to please take a look at following tutorial. I am also sharing the demo page link:

Please note that you will need to add the PHP code in function.php file. Rather then editing core theme file, I suggest you to please install child theme and then add PHP code in child theme function.php file. I am sharing few resources that you can use to download and setup child theme.

I also came across a plugin that you can take a look at add Smugmug images on your website, though not exactly what you are looking for but may help you in future. You can download the plugin from following source:

Hope that points you in right direction.

Thanks.

Hello Prasant, that does point me in the right direction.
Thanks so much, Van

You are most welcome, Van.
