Essential Grid won't preview or allow editing in Front End

I’ve had an issue with my Essential Grid to where when I go to edit the front end, all the categories are grey and won’t allow me to click on them, also it doesn’t show me a preview. Basically, my essential grid is broken and I can’t update any content, which I do on a weekly basis.

I’ve tried adding the Memory Limit code to the PHP.Config with no success, I’ve deactivated all plugins besides the plugins that came with X-Theme, and I tried Deactivating and Reactivating with no success. Please help with this, because I’m already a week behind in updating content.

Hi @chadtca50,

Thanks for writing in.

I could see that you have tried possible solutions. In this case, please share us your admin credential so we could check your setup closer.

Don’t forget to set it in a secure note.

Thanks.

Hi again,

Thank you for the credentials. I checked your setup and I see you’ve an outdated version of X with the latest version of Cornerstone. Always make sure to update both X and Cornerstone to avoid such errors and conflicts. You can find the latest version numbers here: (http://theme.co/changelog/) Then you can compare them to what’s installed on your site.

If you find anything to be out of date, you can review our update guide.

Thank you for getting back with me. I’ve updated X, but I’m still having the same issues.

Hi there,

I see you’re using cloudflare-nginx and the content on the front end is being served by the cache. Make sure to clear all the cache after making any change and updating the theme so the latest changes reflect on the front end as well.

This should fix the issue. Let us know if the issue persists!

I’ve cleared my cache in Cloudflare, but the problem is still the same. I had the same issues before I ever updated Cornerstone (I did this in an attempt to fix the problem), so I don’t think the issue was with an outdated X-Theme, because I had the same issue when they were the same version, although an older version.

Hi there,

Would you mind providing your CF login credentials as well?

For the meantime, please make sure to implement these

  1. Add these to your Page Rules with “Disable Performance” and “Bypass cache” values.

*example.com/x/* *example.com/*cornerstone*

Replace example.com with your domain

  1. Go to your CF’s Speed section and turn off CSS and JS minification

  2. Disable WP Super Cache plugin (don’t activate it until we’re done testing)

  3. Disable Really Simple SSL, and let Wordpress and CF handle it.

  4. In your CF’s Rule att Always HTTPS rule with the value of http://example.com/* (not https). Again replace example.com with your domain. This step is just to make sure it’s served through HTTPS without a need for the plugin, but you may remove it again if it caused issues on your site.

  5. Purge all your CF’s cache and test again.

Thanks!

I did everything you said and added my CF credentials in the secure note. When I disabled Really Simple SSL and added the HTTPS rule, my whole site and WP Dashboard broke. So, I turned Really Simple SSL back on and removed the HTTPS rule. Still, my Essential Grid is having the same problems.

Hello There,

As we investigate this issue we tried to disable the Really Simply SSL and now we are locked out of the dashboard. Could you please delete the RSS folder from your plugins folder because at the moment, there is a “Too many redirect” error. This could be because of the attempt to change the Site URL settings in Settings > General. please understand that before using a plugin, you will have to change the https protocol in your Site URL and WordPress Address URL first.

If nothing is working, please give us ftp access so that we can fixed this issue.

Thanks.

I deleted the Really Simple SSL folder, but the site is still down. I’ve added the credentials for FTP in the secure note.

Hi there,

Which is why I don’t recommend relying on plugins when it’s related to a configuration of your site. Once it down, your site will be down too. It still best to configure it through its available options.

It looks like common issue https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/uninstall-websitebackend-not-accessible/, and it’s permanently attached to your site. I did what’s instructed with no luck.

Perhaps, you can restore your site back from previous copy, then clone it in a staging and remove the plugin there and fix it. The push it back lives and configures HTTPS URL in Admin > Settings > General, then install Better Search Replace plugin and replace all instances of http://example.com/wp-content/ by https://example.com/wp-content/ from all the database tables. That’s the proper way of configuring your Site’s HTTPS (no need for a plugin) as long as SSL certificate is active for your domain.

And please turn away for CF, for now, change your domain nameservers to your hosting nameservers (you can put it back once checking is done).

Thanks!

I’m very new to websites. I honestly don’t know how to do what you’re saying and I’m worried I may never be able to fix this problem. Is it possible for you to go in and do what you’re asking?

Hi there,

We can only do that once your site is up again, so you have to restore it first through your hosting, then clone it to a sub-domain where we can perform these procedures.

Do you have a backup of your site?

Thanks!

I have a backup that was saved within a WP Plugin, not through my Host.

Hi there,

In that case, you may check this https://backwpup.com/docs/how-to-restore-a-wordpress-backup

Have you tried contacting your hosting provider to see if they can restore it back?

Thanks.

I’ve got the site backup from a restore from November 12th. Everything seems to be working ok. I’ve tried making a subdomain (test.rise-church.com), and I copied my files from my public.html, but I don’t think it’s doing anything. I’m very new to website, and again, I really don’t know what I’m doing. The folder with the subdomain is currently in my public.html folder, and it contains all the files that are in the same public.html folder. Could you please go in and fix what you said here?

Hi there,

You should use a tool when creating a staging/test site. Copying files aren’t enough. You can use All in one migration plugin for that.

  1. In your live site, please install All in one migration plugin, then export your site as a file and download it
  2. Install a new Wordpress on your staging/test site (I think it’s doable on your hosting panel)
  3. In your staging site, please install All in one migration plugin and import the file you exported from step #1

And that’s it

Please do that first, then I’ll check the issues on your staging site. Looks like your site is sensitive to change and I’m afraid to mess up with it

Thanks!

I have made a clone site through a subdomain. I will include the login credentials in a secure note on this post.

Hi there.

Thank you for the information on the staging environment. I accessed the website and used a temporary license key to update the theme and Cornerstone. Now the theme is updated.

Would you please kindly double check the case now and see if the Essential Grids is working ok for you?

If not, please kindly get back to us with exact steps to be able to recreate the issue, so we can test that ourselves first hand.

Thank you.

It still is not working. I’m not sure what you mean by recreate the issue, when the issue is still there. Could you please explain what you want me to do? I’m not sure what caused the issue, which is why I’m hoping to find a solution here. The last I heard, it was something to do with this:
