Creating Header & Footer Before Site Is Live

Hi Everyone

A quick question about creating the header and footer before a website is fully operational. We do have a landing page saying the website is coming soon but all the other pages being worked on are private still.

In the dashboard, when I go to Appearance / Customize and then choose Header, I get the message “A conflict on the front end of your site has prevented the preview from loading”. I can make changes on the left of the screen but the preview screen on the right is not working.

Is this because the current landing page has no header and footer, so that is causing an issue with the program?

We are using the X Theme.

Hopefully there is way to build the header and footer before it goes live. Also, I have cleared my cache since that always seems to be the first thing people say to do.

Thanks
Carl

Hey Carl,

Assuming your landing page is using a Blank No Header page template it would working with Customize > Header would still work. I tested it. Please check for the following:

  1. Ensure everything is up to date according to our version compatibility list at https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-version-compatibility/195. Please follow the best practices when updating your theme and plugins. See https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/setup-updating-your-themes-and-plugins/62 for more details.

  2. Clear all caches including browser cache then deactivate your caching plugins and other optimization plugins.

  3. If you’re using a CDN, please clear the CDN’s cache and disable optimization services.

  4. Test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

  5. Remove custom CSS, Javascript and templates.

There is no way to selectively configure the header and the footer. You might want to use an the Under Construction extension instead of using a page. See https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/extension-under-construction/89

Thanks.
