Cornerstone “Uh oh. Content failed to save!” on homepage after X-theme update

Cornerstone was working fine until I have updated X-theme and Cornerstone on the latest updates and now I’m not able to make changes in my home page.

I have cleared the cache data.
I have deactivated plugins.
I have tried to research the forum… but couldn’t fine anything that works.

Could you please advise me on what to do?
Any way I can downgrade to the previous version?

Hi Andre,

Thanks for writing in and I’m sorry to hear that you’re having this issue. Could you please try following our general troubleshooting guidelines below and see if you can isolate the issue. Most possible causes are due to caching or plugin conflicts. Also check your PHP version and memory limit.

  1. Ensure everything is up to date according to our version compatibility list here. Please follow the best practices when updating your theme and plugins. Click here for more information.
  2. Go to X > Settings and click on the Clear Style Cache button.
  3. If you’re using a CDN, please clear the CDN’s cache and disable optimization services.
  4. Test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third-party plugins, and see if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.
  5. Remove custom CSS and Javascript from the Theme Options or Child Theme and test the case.
  6. Reset your htaccess file by renaming it to .htaccess-bak. Then in WP Admin Menu, go to Settings > Permalinks and just click the Save Changes button.

If you still have problems kindly get back to us with the result of the steps above and URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard using the Secure Note functionality of the post to follow up the case.

Thank you.

Hi there,
Many thanks for the support.

I have deactivated all the plugins and it works fine. However, when reactivating them, I’m only able to activate 7 plugins (I had 23 originally). It doesn’t matter in what sequence I reactivate them, after the 7th the error appears.

Any clue?

Kind regards

Hi Andre,

May I know the 7th plugin? It could be the culprit, please try skipping the 7th and continue activating the other. If that’s correct then the only way for cornerstone to work is to deactivate that plugin permanently, or just when you’re working in the builder.

Thanks!

Hi Rad,
There is no specific plugin. I have done it in different sequences, reactivating different plugins every time and the error always appears after the 7th plugin reactivated, regardless of which one it is.

And it happens only at the home page. Any other page saves fine in Cornerstone.

Thanks

Hi @andrehqs,

Ah, it’s a performance issue. Could you confirm if you’re able to increase your memory limit? Please provide your site’s URL and admin login credentials in a secure note.

I also recommend contacting your hosting provider to increase the memory limit for your, some hosting restrict it and changing it through wp-config.php will not going to work.

Thanks!
