Why dark mode for site canvas at front end is now set by default if PC uses dark theme?

Hi,

Thanks a lot for another marvelous PRO update. Version 6.8 looks great! :ok_hand:

However, I’m a bit confused with the light site canvas defaulting to dark mode since I use a dark theme on my computer. Is there a way to switch that behavior off and keep the old approach?

Will there be documentation on adjusting colors for the dark version? The colors originally set for the light version don’t always work well in dark mode. I couldn’t find any distinct color options for dark versions within the CS element settings in the 6.8 release as well as nothing in Release Notes.

There is no documentation on how to adjust colors of the UI and we do not provide support for UI customization.

Hi @christian,

Unfortunately, it doesn’t help. It affects only the Cornerstone UI and I actually like its dark UI. The site canvas was always light before 6.8, no matter which theme I used at the computer or in the browser. With the installation of the latest version of PRO, the site canvas now aligns with the computer/browser settings. It seams like the only way to adjust it is by changing the browser or computer theme, which again I would not like to do.

I utilize Blank Stack in the Global Options, if that clarifies the situation. Oh, if I switch to Starter Stack there is an option to set background color by the way, but it also changes other site settings. It doesn’t seem that it was active before the PRO update. The problem arises specifically when utilizing Blank Stack. Should I use custom CSS to set global site canvas background color if I still want to use Blank Stack?

Hello John,

The Canvas background color depends on the browser default when using the Blank stack. This is because with Blank stack, you will have to define your colors in your custom CSS, unlike with Starter and other stacks, where the background color settings are in place and applied to the canvas area.

This is good to know.

I just wanted to point out that this change is applicable starting from PRO Theme 6.8. In the previous version of the theme, the canvas background color was always light, even when using the Blank stack and in the same browser.
