Layout Builder + Filtering Posts

I am writing this new topic as the subject came up in another one and I think it needs its own article.

This is the situation: I just learned about the layout builder and how it can be used to style the blog index page or other archive pages for that matter. This works great and I think I got the basic understanding of looper providers and consumers. However - in order for me to be able to use the layout builder for my blog page instead of the grid plugin, I would need filtering capability. I already turned to the Ethos stack as it has filtering built in. BUT - since I assigned the blog index layout to the blog page, the filter isn’t there anymore. Is there a way to get it back in combination with using layouts?

Also - if I wanted to pull specific posts with the looper provider…how would I go about it? I apparently can’t filter for post categories. I need the “general” blog section with all categories except “Media” (and a filter) and another page that just displays posts from the “Media” category.

Hello @umbertofederico,

Thanks for writing to us.

In case you want to display the posts filter by any category in your Looper setup, you need to set the Looper Provider as Query Builder and then you need to select the category from the Taxonomies dropdown list.

Hope it helps

Does this show the filters on the blog index Page? I thought the query builder is just to filter which posts are pulled into the layout.

Hi @umbertofederico,

It does not provide the filters, the Looper Provider only provide the posts based on the Query Builder.

Thanks

Well - that wasn’t my question. I want to get the filters. How can I achieve that?

Hey @umbertofederico,

I suggest that you check this thread that might help you with your concerns.

Hope that helps.

Not really…what I am looking for can be seen in the attached screenshot - just without using The Grid Plugin but using the native themeco X capabilities provided with the Ethos stack!

Can this be achieved?

Hey @umbertofederico,

Regretfully, that can’t be achieved in Pro. The instruction provided in the other thread is currently the furthest replicated of a filterable grid.

If you need a feature rich grid, you need to use the Essential Grid.

Thanks.
