Background colours

Hi,

I am using the Ethoz theme, site layout full width, content layout full width.
I tried changing my background colour using Theme Options, but it remains white.
My website consists of pages and posts using the default wordpress format (not cornerstone), as well as blog archives.
When I tried to add background colours in the page/post editing section, it only adds the colour to that section, instead of the whole page.
Can you guide me on how to better utilise the background colour / pattern function?
