    Hey guys,

i’m working on a X Integrity child theme webpage which was/is powered by a very old version of X (1.8.0) and tried to manually update it to the latest version (4.4.1) but encountered some problems. Previously i managed to successfully backup the whole webpage (BackUpWordpress) and update WordPress to the latest version (4.4.2).

I ran into 2 main problems:
    1. licensing problem for new version of X theme I downloaded from Themeco following the guides to update to the latest version of X + Cornerstone manually (I had no option for automatic updates in WP dashboard).

    2. the new X theme + Cornerstone completely shattered the front end design of the Integrity child theme. I was forced to remove shortcodes plugin in order to install Cornerstone. Custom CSS was gone so I added all previous custom CSS lines into new global CSS customizer but not much happened. Apart from CSS problems the layout (built in Visual Composer), typography (X customizer), header logo (X customizer), image sizes (Visual Composer) and some other settings were completely off.

I decided to go back to 1.8.0. so i manually deleted 4.4.1.from server, uninstalled cornerstone and reinstalled the shortcode plugin again to end up where I started except for navigation typography which is now in italic and won’t change via Customizer anymore. Tried with CSS – no luck.

    Questions:
    1. how to regain control over navigation typography?
    2. is the gap between 1.8.0 and 4.4.1. X theme too extreme to expect only minor corrections on front end design? Is it possible to update the X to the latest version via step by step smaller updates?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hey there,

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this after the update. Updating from 1.8.0 to 4.4.1 is quite the jump, but we’d be happy to help you through it.

The major styling issues you were seeing on the front end was likely related to using one of the older stack specific child themes. We have a simpler way of doing this now. You can find the updated child theme format here: https://community.theme.co/child-theme/

What we could try doing it updating one major version at a time. First 2.0, then 3.0, then 4.0, then the latest etc. Send us an email at info@theme.co, and we can get you the archived versions. Just include a link to this forum thread in the email so we know what it’s in reference to.

    Hello There,

Please make sure that everything are fully updated (Theme and Plugins). All the issues can only be eliminated when you have updated everything in your site. Most of the time out dated theme and plugins will create issues in your site.

    Our latest versions are:
    X Theme: 4.4.2
    Cornerstone: 1.2.4
    Visual Composer: 4.11.2

Please deactivate and delete X Shortcodes. Please take note that X shortcodes and its functionality has been consolidated into Cornerstone which you can install by going to X Addons > Extensions. To know more about Cornerstone, please check it out here: http://theme.co/blog/x-version-4-introducing-cornerstone/

You can find the latest version numbers here: (http://theme.co/changelog/) Then you can compare them to what’s installed on your site.

If you find anything to be out of date, you can review our update guide.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi there,

Thanks for writing back. As you are using very older version of X and didn’t keep that up to date so I think the update is due and you should go for that to avoid issues in future.

As you will rebuild the page so I’d suggest you to setup a staging site and validate this as development environment. See – http://prntscr.com/b08yne

Let’s install fresh copy of WordPress and X with everything up to date. You can use the Child Theme from beginning if you think you might need some out of the box customization. The start rebuilding the pages with Cornerstone. Since the content is already on your old site so it shouldn’t take much time to rebuild.

Let us know if you need further guidance.

    Cheers!
