    Hi Team

I’ve got an issue where I am unable to install the Cornerstone plugin. This is a brand new install of the X theme.
When I try to install the plugin from the Extension menu I get the following message:

The plugin does not have a valid header.
    Downloading install package from http://theinquisitiveceo.com/wp-content/themes/x/framework/plugins/cornerstone.zip…
    Download failed. Unauthorized

My site is hosted by WPEngine.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello There,

    Thanks for writing in!

This sounds like a file permissions issue with your WordPress installation. How are you trying to install plugin? Do you get this error when you try from the X Addons > Extensions page?

You could try contacting your host to double check the file permissions.

It’s also possible to install and update the plugins manually via FTP (https://theme.co/x/member/kb/updating-your-theme-and-plugins/)

    Hope that helps. 🙂

    Hi
Thanks for the prompt reply. Yes I get the error when going from X Addons > Extensions page.

I will have a look at installing the plugin manually as suggested as I’ve already contacted my host.

    Thanks again.

I am having this issue as well and I’ve noticed that I do not have this plugin’s .zip file in my file folders. How to I get this plugin installed?

    Hello Eric,

You may refer to this link :https://community.theme.co//kb/updating-your-theme-and-plugins/
From the zip you have downloaded in your Themeforest profile, you can find that under x\framework\plugins directory

    Hope this helps.

Just wanted to report same here, but I’m curious if the other WP Engine users are working on the staging environment or production.

One of my existing production sites upgraded X Theme versions and can add extensions fine. But, I’m just trying to install X on the staging server for a client site that just bought X, and have run into the above error.

The API key installed OK, but the extensions won’t install. I’m not aware of having any kind of control over permissions for the staging area, but it would be nice to get this resolved (maybe WP Engine support can help if we know what is going on?).

I’m traveling right now, but I wanted to respond here so I could follow up when I get back.
(Sorry, I see the OP didn’t seem to be on the staging environment… hmm.)

    Hi there,

    Thanks for writing in !

There are two options to resolve this :

#1 Change file permissions as you know.

#2 Try to install plugins manually, to do so please download X Theme folder from Theme Forest, you can locate the “cornerstone.zip” file under (“X/framework/plugins/”). Then unzip the plugin file and use a FTP Client software (FileZilla Client) to upload it into your server (“ROOT/wp-content/plugins/”) folder.

Once you have uploaded it into the server, login to your WordPress back-end and head over to the Plugins -> Installed plugins to activate the plugin.

    Hope that helps.

re: #1 – Can you provide a bit more detail as to the mechanics of this and what permissions are needed? I’m constantly working with the staging server environment at WP Engine when developing new sites (and it looks like maybe it could be an issue in their production environment too), and all my sites are hosted there… so it’s a problem I’d want to get worked out eventually.

re: #2 – Are there any other ‘default’ X-related plugins I should install, or just wait until it complains that they need to be installed?

    Hi there,

    #1 Please check this link : https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions.

This could also means your server is timing out when it tries to download plugins. In this case you should contact your host provider.

#2 The only required plugin is Cornerstone.

    Hope it helps.

I hadn’t realise that this thread was getting so some traction. cgWerks just a fyi, I eventually installed Cornerstone manually.

Thanks jthlcf, I’ll see what happens on my next production site install. The one site where I have X implemented so far, in production, the update is working. Where it isn’t working, for me, is WP Engine staging environment. Yes, I also installed it manually.

Since other plugins seem to update just fine, there must be something else going on here. I looked at permissions, and I don’t see anything odd. Not a deal-breaker, but it would be nice if it ‘just worked.’ Heh! (Maybe I’ve just gotten spoiled by WP Engine too…)

    Hey There,

Thanks for updating this thread! Glad to know that you figured out a way to resolve your issue.

I would try checking with your hosting provider or WP Engine on this particular issue as it sounds like something related to your setup is causing this. Typically, this is due server configuration problems (i.e. underpowered, traceroute issues, packet loss, permissions errors, et cetera). Additionally, your host WP Engine will be able to diagnose things much better due to the fact that they have a more complete view of your account and can work behind the scenes with you. If the problem you are experiencing persists after working with your host, don’t hesitate to let us know and we will be happy to assist you. Any relevant information that you can share with us from your host is also greatly appreciated as it will help us to better ascertain the source of the problem.

    Thank you.

    Hello everyone,

I contacted WP Engine support about this issue. They said (if I’m paraphrasing properly) that the problem is due to the location of these ‘extensions’ in a non-typical default WordPress file path in the directory structure for where WordPress looks for plugins.

Again, while it’s ultimately not that big of a deal (for the more technical among us, at least), it would cut down on support if there were some other way to accomplish this.
