Before moving forward with X 4.0, I want to verify that I’m establishing the best workflow as decisions made now will potentially impact dozens, maybe hundreds, of sites in the coming months.
Here’s the scenario:
— I have a multisite installation that I use for all client sites.
— I have already uploaded X 4.0 into the Network Admin themes directory.
— My research and a previous question that was only partly answered has lead me to believe that child themes (currently child theme 3.2.2 being the most current) DO still work with Cornerstone just as they did in X 3.x. And that child themes are still the recommended way to create a site with X.Based on the above assumptions, my intended workflow is to upload a child theme for each client’s site and have all of those child themes work off the single installation of the X parent theme.
X Team: can you please confirm that this is optimal, or if not, please tell me a better way to do this?
Thank you!!!
P.S. Like many others, I’ve been waiting for this 4.0 update and have delayed work on several client’s projects in anticipation of Cornerstone. I really want X and Cornerstone to be the single theme we use across all of our clients. After watching the video introduction of Cornerstone, I feel it absolutely can be a game changer. [crosses fingers] I also happen to live in the real world, unlike some folks who’ve left harsh comments, and realize that no software is perfect ever, no new software is even close to perfect ever, and that all new things take some learning, some tweaking, and some adjustment. But I think the short-term pain will be worth the long-run benefits to incorporating Cornerstone into the design workflow, especially for those of us who creating multiple sites.
Keep up the great work, X Team.
Cheers, Craig

May 30, 2015 at 4:27 pm #286988Hi there,
Child theme is always best regardless of theme. It’s recommended by wordpress and most developers. Though, if you will use multisite, if will just use the same theme as the other (Same version and same customization).
How about just create different installation for each site since they are different? If you just wish different customization for same parent theme, then multisite is the best choice 🙂
And thanks for understanding, really appreciate that 🙂
Yes, if they are different sites then you will have use unique purchase key for each, which means different installation too.
Thanks!
