We use X-theme on most of our larger and active sites and there are two issues I thought at first were caused by WP 4.5 and 4.5.1 alone, but these issues only happen when X-Theme is active in the site. I’ve reported this here: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/36677, but realized when I tested this on a site with large images and a different Theme, there were no such problems.

    1) Media placement in posts or pages (full-size image):
Regarding inserting a full-size image into a page/post, this problem still exists. This first showed up with the update to WP version 4.5. After you upload an image it shows in the media library, but when you insert it at native size into a post it appears as a broken link, see attachments. After editing the image (scale it slightly) and updating, the image will display, but only after you remove and then re-insert it.

    2) Media uploads into Media Library or directly into page/post:
This appeared after updating to WP 4.5.1. The new problem is that I could not upload any images that were larger than 2MB. I tried different sizes and anything over 2 MB produced an error (attached).

I could reproduce this in 3 different sites where WP 4.5.1 was installed and X-Theme active.
When I tested in a site that was not yet updated but had X-Theme active, there were no errors. In a site that was updated to 4.5.1 and did not have X-Theme active, none of these anomalies happened.

    Hi Lexi,

Sorry to hear about the issues you are facing!

I am using X theme in a personal site and could not able to reproduce the issues you mentioned. However, we would like to take a look to your site. Would you mind providing us with login credentials? To do this, you can make a post with the following info:

    – Link to your site
    – WordPress Admin username / password
    – FTP credentials

Don’t forget to select Set as private reply. This ensures your information is only visible to our staff.

Meanwhile, please try increasing the upload file size limit in PHP following this article: https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/increase-memory-limit/

    Thank you!

    Hi there,

We’ll look into it. As this may true, I can’t provide a temporary fix but just recommend to downgrade to older version. But we’ll check it, stay tuned.

    Thanks!

I suggest you work with WordPress. I’ve put this problem onto their trac.wordpress.org. They are also checking into this, although it happens when using X, and doesn’t when not using X.

Our server admin gave me the following information regarding the three of my sites that are upgraded to WP 4.5.1 regarding upload_max_filesize and post_max_size:

…public policy is 10M, goodman is 32M, civitas is showing 10M. That would mean that there’s no way the php.ini setting is going to be limiting uploads to 2M. Even accounting for the fact that base64 encoding increases the size by roughly 33%, even the 10M limits should allow more than 6MB even if the raw post size is getting limited rather than the real file size.

    I hope this helps. https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/36677#comment:8

Thanks for sharing! Though, we’ll do our investigation since there is no way we can check the issue at your end. We may not able top replicate it on admin, and that just end on that since we can’t do it with FTP while. I can’t even reproduce it on my own installation. Again, we’ll continue checking. Thanks!

FYI. This is what I just put into the WP bug tracker:

We found the problem with upload file size bug. It is a Wordfence NOT an X-theme bug. The new Wordfence firewall puts a line into .htaccess that causes this problem, an conflict with our servers. The Wordfence updates coincided with WP updates. As soon as we reverted (several sites) to the backed up .htaccess and turned off the firewall, all errors disappeared. I thought I should name the correct culprit. It’s not the X-theme.

These were such unusual bugs that only appeared at first in sites with X-theme, we stopped updating WP. Our server people found the cause yesterday.
