Unsure if this is x-theme or cornerstone related.
The thumbnail WooCommerce product images displayed on my site homepage are WAY bigger (source file size, not display dimensions) than they need to be.
They’re displayed at 182×182 but the theme or woocommerce is choosing an image which is 777x777px in some cases. Even if it was using a 2x image for retina display it’d only need to be 364x364px.
See images below ‘OUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR YOU AND YOUR BABY’ on this page for a good example:
https://www.starsandfish.co.uk/
I know I could upload a different image at 364×364 to be the ‘product image’ and solve this that way, but presumably then when I click through to the product itself where the product image displays much larger, it’d be blurry having been displayed larger than its own dimensions.
I’m very surprised WooCommerce doesn’t use a different image for product images when displaying thumbnails, automatically.
Thank you!
April 6, 2016 at 8:57 am #869312Hi there!
Thanks for writing in, I’ve checked your site, but I’m not seeing the oversized images.
Screenshots attached of what I see, could you post some screenshots of how it displays for you please? We’d love to help get this fixed up for you. 🙂
Thank you!
April 6, 2016 at 8:59 am #869323Hi, thanks for coming back to me. I knew I’d not explained myself very well.
I mean the natural image size is too big. It looks fine on screen, but the file sizes of those small square product thumbnail images are BIG. Google PageSpeed insights is moaning at me 🙁
Any ideas?
TY!
April 6, 2016 at 12:42 pm #869740Hey there,
Please see attachment. WordPress now has a true responsive image feature which loads the right image size depending on screen width. With that said, you should not worry about image size.
What Page Insight says about your images is that you need to optimize or compress them (see attachment). You can do that by using a plugin like WP Smush or other image optimization service.
This is neither an issue with X nor Cornerstone.
Thanks.
April 7, 2016 at 5:19 am #870895It’s not working on those WooCommerce product images then. The reason Google is suggesting they can be optimised is because the source image is nearly 800×800 and the display is showing at about 200×200.
Wordpress hasn’t resized it down appropriately at all.
I now know this isn’t your fault of course however. But thank you for any ideas you can offer as to why WP isn’t creating smaller versions of these files in this instance?
April 7, 2016 at 9:11 am #871206Update from WooCommerce on this:

April 7, 2016 at 9:43 am #871254Additional. WooCommerce normally has image size controls as shown here:
https://annotate.driftt.com/view?i=fwf0cm6ix2lym5x%2F2016-04-07_at_09.18.png%2F
But they’re missing in my dashboard. Does X remove those controls? If so how can I get them back so I can sort this out?
Or is there a better way to resolve this?
April 7, 2016 at 12:07 pm #871503Hi there,
Thanks for updating. X doesn’t control this or any other functionality of WooCommerce. However if you had not select the hard crop before then you might need to regenerate thumbnails (you can use a plugin like : https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/) or try uploading new images.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
April 7, 2016 at 12:32 pm #871533Apparently you used to strip those settings. Do you not any more?
See this forum thread (your forum) from 2015 I just found:
https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/product-images-woocommerce/
Does that still apply? Can I do the same thing?
TY
April 8, 2016 at 1:06 am #872376Hello There,
Yes, it still does apply. Simply follow the instructions in this topic: https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/product-images-woocommerce/#post-224057
You should be able to resize the products after doing the changes and make sure that you have regenerated thumbnails.
Please let me know how it goes.
April 12, 2016 at 7:26 am #878142Hi,
I did all that. Changed the image size options. Rebuilt thumbnails. No change.
I’ve found that the x-Theme includes specific templates for Woocommerce product display. I suspect the problem lies in there?
Cheers,
April 12, 2016 at 6:21 pm #879085Hi There,
You can check the thread below if it does help.
Hope it helps.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks.
April 13, 2016 at 5:28 am #879733Aaagh! Did that. Rebuilt thumbnails. Cleared page cache.
No improvement, and now, for no apparent reason, all products in the catalogue etc are displaying doubled up on top of themselves:

Please help!
April 13, 2016 at 10:23 am #880214Hi there,
Thanks for writing back, did you make any changes to the parent theme files with the WooCommerce integration?
Can you post wp-admin details and FTP details in a private reply please so we can take a closer look at this.
Thanks!
April 13, 2016 at 10:26 am #880219Hi no I don’t recall doing so. Just created the functions.php in the child theme if I remember correctly.
