Hi there
I’m making a multilingual webshop – English & Dutch) with the latest version of X and the latest version of woocommerce installed. I use the latest versions of WPML: WPML MULTILINGUAL CMS, WOOCOMMERCE MULTILINGUAL, WPML MEDIA, WPML STRING TRANSLATIONS & WPML TRANSLATION MANAGEMENT.
The name for the shop page is translated in my pages but on the front end it uses the standard “The Shop” title as it is set in X Theme Customizer. I can’t seem to translate “The Shop” to Dutch.
Also, the Cart title is translated, but the “Your cart is currently empty” is not translated into Dutch.
How would I be able to translate these things to Dutch, or any other language I want to add in the future?

This reply has been marked as private.Please downgrade WooCommerce to the version listed here https://community.theme.co/kb/version-compatibility/ then please check if you could translate the texts. Currently, you’re using the beta version. If you’ve installed via Addons, there’s currently a bug where the beta would be installed.

Thanks for that info. Indeed I seemed to have ran a beta version of Woocommerce.
I downgraded to latest supported version of woocommerce (2.6.9 according to your website although latest stable is 2.9.13). Still, the issue remains.
When using “Dashboard > WPML > String Translation” translating the string “The Shop” in the domain _X_ to Dutch does not change anything. In both my languages “The Shop” shows on the front end…
Once the customizer options are saved, it will be pulling the text from an option in the database rather than that localized string in the code. To translate options, WPML has a string translation feature that will filter the return values of any options. It’s somewhat like a find and replace. Try this step from their documentation:
How to use:
1. Enable the option to ‘Track where strings appear on the site’.
2. Visit the site’s front-end pages.
3. Switch to a language other than the site’s default language.
4. WPML will register any string that appears on the page you are viewing. Move from page to page to cover all the strings you need.Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. This does not seem to provide a solution for my problem, since the “track where strings appear on the site” does not seem to work in WPML. When following the WPML documented instructions I can’t see any marking on any page of my website’s front end. I still cannot translate these items. I contacted WPML support about this issue.
Is there no .PO or .MO file available for X theme in other languages than English? If not standard provided by your company, are there no user based .MO or .PO files in other languages? A lot of people use X Theme, so this would be very convenient for other users to use for translating their X theme content. Many major themes have standard .MO & .PO files available, some even with a thriving translator community…

Thanks for updating in! In X theme and even in Cornerstone, we have included the .pot files. You can make use of this file to generate your *.mo and *.po files. I have attached the pot files so that you can use it to properly translate your site.

To translate Cornerstone if needed, you can translate it just like any other WordPress plugin;

One last question. I saw in your documentation that I should use /wp-content/themes/x/framework/lang/x.pot
Is this x.pot file the same as the x.pot file you sent me in attachment?

I followed your instructions and created .mo & .po files according to your documentation. I also uploaded them to my x child theme and updated the child theme functions.php with your provided code. Then I saved the language in settings > general. But nothing seemed translated.
Then I tried it in a different way: I restored the original child theme functions.php, I deleted the .mo file at my child theme /languages dir. Then I followed these instructions https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/theme-localization/ and uploaded the nl_NL.mo file to wp-content/themes/x.
In WPML > Theme & Plugin Localization > Language locale settings the plugin says that the .mo file is found. But still the theme name for my shop is not translated into Dutch. Also “cart is currently empty” is not translated into Dutch.
I have to add that I renamed the shop name to “Online Shop” in customizer before, and then I dowloaded the .pot file to edit in Poedit. This .pot file still used the standard “The Shop” name which I translated to “Online Winkel”. Regarding the “Your cart is currently empty”, I cannot seem to find this string using Poedit. So logically this is not translated yet…. How do I solve this so that it can be translated?
UPDATE!
I didn’t follow the WPML instructions correctly. I now have been able to translate the “Your Cart Is Currently Empty”.
This is what I did:
I renamed my nl_NL.mo file to __x__-nl_NL.mo and uploaded the file to wp-content/languages/themes.
Now my content is translated but the WPML > Theme and Plugin localization does not seem to find the .mo file since the app indicates “file not found” in red.
Regarding the “The Shop” string, this is still not translated. In customizer I’ve called it “Online Shop” but in Poedit it is still called “The Shop” which I translated to “Online Winkel. On the front end of my site both Dutch & English versions show “Online Shop”.
How to sort this? If this “The Shop” issue is sorted I think all other translations will work out fine. Although it is strange that WPML says “file not found” although translations now do work (apart from “The Shop)….

Hello There,
It’s recommended to always use child themes because this will be safe from wordpress and theme updates. Please check this thread: https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/no-way-to-translate/#post-178894. Please do add the code on functions.php of your child theme, and then save the file on child theme language folder, then do leave that settings if there’s still issues so we can check.
Update: I have succeeded in translating the “The Shop” and other admin related strings & options in the Customizer of the X theme.
