I’ve done some more research into this issue and found that the Braintree gateway plugin hasn’t been updated for a while and other users have had similar issues. I’m now in a quandary. I can’t just sit and wait for the plugin to be updated. So, do I go back to an older version of WooCommerce? What will that do with the integration with X? Is there a safe way for everything to work together well by downgrading? The Braintree plugin says it’s compatible up to WordPress 4.1.8 and was last updated about 8 months ago. Thanks for your help.

Yes, since you rely on that plugin then you probably need to downgrade your woocommerce. But it could cause chain effect since older version of woocommerce and X theme is not compatible on the latest version of wordpress. Which then, you may need to downgrade them all.
The best is contacting your hosting and see if they can provide your an older backup of your site.
Thanks.
October 3, 2015 at 10:44 pm #609819I found another plugin that connects with the payment gateway, disabled the old one, and installed the new one. The old one hadn’t been updated in 8 months and there was little indication that an update was coming soon. So I tried the new plugin and it solved my problem. Thanks for helping me diagnose the problem. Things appear to be back on track.
