SkeeterHarrisParticipantHey Guys,
I need your help. I have a page called DCG Blogs – which is basically a Grid of posts and a column for the blog side bar. The page renders fine and shows both in cornerstone but when you go to the published page there is no sidebar present but it certainly looks like there is plenty of room.
Here is the page that represent the blog with the sidebar – http://bcb.5d4.myftpupload.com/dcg-blog/
I’ll provide creds below.
Thank you

RupokMemberHi there,
Thanks for writing in! Looks like you are using fullwidth page template so there is no sidebar. Your given credentials not working so can’t check from backend. Make sure to set a page template with sidebar and also make sure to set this from Customize > Layout and Design.
Cheers!

SkeeterHarrisParticipantHi Lely,
Thanks for point this out but even after addressing this the problem was still there! What I have uncovered is either a bug in the Theme X template or more likely a bug with The Grid. Here’s how I know, and you are welcome to go back in and test it for your self.
So there are a few things at play here: We have the page itself DCG Blog, We have a Grid called called DCG Blog but here is the interesting part – If I change the category I want to use say away from Blog with 85 entries to the news category the page renders perfectly. The minute I went back and changed the category back – same problem. I event went as far as cloning the working grid on a different section of the site and used this renamed clone to see if it worked on the DCG BLog page and sure enough it did. So I narrowed it down to something different between the posts with the meta blog, verse other meta.
When upon further inspection it is actually nothing wrong with the posts – it’s within the grid itself. As you might now you can specify how many items render within a single grid. So for this page I selected 16. However on the news grid – I don’t have sixteen I have less than. So I decided to try lowering the number to say 12. Guess what – BAMM!! The page renders perfect. Not believing my eyes I tried it again – problem came back. When back and changed to 12 – problem was solved again.
All I can think of is that either the theme or the grid is getting memory of some type of buffer issue which then causes the page render problem. Like I sad you are welcome to go back into the site and try it out but that was the issue.
Thanks for your help!

LelyModeratorHello Skeeter,
Glad you were able to narrow out the issue. I did some testing too and notice that it display fine until 15. When Item # is 16 upward, the GRID display goes haywire. But even if the first page is displaying correctly, next pages have the same issues. Look for page 2 onwards. It seems that the issue just move to the next page. There’s an extra excerpt the overflows from the container. Can you try double checking the differenceon the post content or settings? See attached screenshot. Check if the post have any html structure issues. It display another image on the excerpt part and the text overflows beyond excerpt container. We just need to confirm that this is not content related.

SkeeterHarrisParticipantHey Lely,
Well my head hurts on this one and thanks for giving me so place to start on this one. Ok so here is what I found and have a question for you to..
You are correct there is some short code in most posts that appears to be a [caption id= and then content] now after digging this appears to be a custom caption element from the old website using the theme Divi.
Back to X and Grid – so if I go into the grid DCG Demo – the preview renders the grid even with all the short code showing as “HTML”. Once I drop it on a page in Cornerstone – Same problem page 3 and later won’t render. So I tried the same thing with a blank page no theme applied and same problem. Does not work!
So back to basics – I set up a DCG Blog page – NO GRID to see if I could get posts to even load. Guess what? It works! You can see this under the /Resources/Test Blog menu item. All pages load, no issues, no hangs, etc!! No that stated this customer [caption id] shows up on a ton of posts and it appears a blank page defined as standard blog renders and just ignores that bad short code.
So it appears that either The Grid or X have an issue with the shortcode and basically break the rendering of the page!! Is it a bug? Well In my humble opinion no it isn’t and at least I know what to do. Not ahppy about it but a a bunch of cleaning will be required to use The Grid and Cornerstone on these.
Now a question for you and rather basic but could use some guidance. When looking at these posts, I used WP Exported to export the posts, and then used WP Imported with include attachments checked to get the blot posts into this new site. That said, I see that all imported blog posts are still pointing images over to old site and the reference links were not updated to be attachments on the new server. So either what did I do wrong or is there a differnet approach you would recommend that gets all images over to new server and each post gets’ the reference URL updated to this development domain.
Thanks for the help and let me know your take on this.

RadModeratorHi there,
The import posts feature of WordPress has download attachment features. You can enable that and it will download the images and it will also change its URL.
As for The Grid, might be related to transient or cache. It happens in the random case, you can install Transient cleaner and clean it. As for the shortcode, I think The Grid doesn’t support shortcode in that specific area. The feature, plugin, should implement do_shortcode() function to enable shortcode rendering.
Thanks.
