brent0423ParticipantI just created my first website using the X theme and would really appreciate your advice on suggesstions to improve my website. The purpose of my website is to advertise photos of people in the dog show world’s Borzoi’s. I want them to be able to show off their accomplishments as well as announce their plans for upcoming litters. There is a sheltie website like this where people are paying $100 an ad for the front page… Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advanced.

JoaoModeratorHi There,
This is a tricky question.
There is room for improvment on your website for sure, If this is your first website your work is great, but there are certain aspects of the design that do not loook professional, I hope you take my crytics without hurting your feelings, I am not the greatest designer on Earth but I have been doing that for 4 years. So here goes my tips:
– Your color scheme is not really good, when designing something you should select colors that sit well togheter, in my opinion your coulor pallet is confusing, I would reccomend you checking a website called colorlovers and copy a pallete from there, and stick to those colors, that will bring harmony to your site.
– I am not sure if the Aurora Boreal has relation to this type of dogs. If doesn´t remove that. Less is More, try more simples things than more complex mixed things.
– The main slider with this specific pictures do not look great, would be better if you could use full width pictures or some different design, the best way to design a website, in my opinion, is not to re-invent the wheel, but visit websites you like and copy the style, it is not copying, it is about inspiration and reference.
– Fonts : you have used different types of fonts across your website, Navbar has a classic style, main page has a normal web font, while on http://borzoireview.com/recent-results/ your fonts are cartoonish. This is to mixed for my taste. I would reccomend you sticking to the font you are using on your home page and at least getting rid of the cartoonish font, the navbar font can be there, but would not be my choice I would say…if You like the fonts of a website you can use a Chrome Addon called What A Font to find out which font is being used.
– Button red, shadow blue? No.
– Borders on page titles, No.
– For the image gallery you could use the The grid plugin, it is really cool and Modern, it comes on X Addons, create portfolio items and use it to feed the grid.
– Oval Pics, No. Maybe circled but oval are not standard.
Sorry for the though critics, None of them are an absolute truth, they are simply my opinion.
Keep up with the good work and let us know if you have further questions,
Joao

brent0423ParticipantThank you so much for the advice! Question in regards to the advertise button… how would you change that? I want it to be clearly visible and for people to see it when they come to the website

FriechModeratorHi There,
Rest assured that the current button color combination is very noticeable to the viewers, maybe make it extra large and add a class mbl on it.
But! It would be more interactive if you can utilize the Card element or the Creative CTA element for that same purpose.
Thanks.
