    Thanks for the follow up, sorry if I wasn’t clear. I appreciate all the help, but I still have the issue and was hoping that support would be able to figure something out. Right now the site still freezes in mobile view. It has not been fixed yet. The uploaded video I posted of the site freezing is still what happens. It seems like the one person who had been looking into it, Rad, was unable to replicate on the devices they tried, but narrowed it down to something related to Javascript looping that causes the freeze and a memory leak.

    So I’m hopeful that you guys can find what is causing the site to freeze up in mobile view as right now it’s unusable when viewed on mobile for some people.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

    Thanks for writing back. I took a long time to find out the issues on your site/page and here goes the findings :

    #1. I can see some JS errors that related with disqus embed. It seems you have embedded disqus but not using comments for this page. So let’s find out what you you are using related with disqus to eliminate this. It could be related with another third party plugin (for comment).

    Other error is related with a missing image on Revolution Slider.

    #2. You are using really large images and you have lot of images on your page that’s not optimized. Most of the images are high resolution and together they are hugely impacting the loading. It’s somehow bearable for desktops but for mobile it would be certainly messy. You can use http://compressor.io/ to optimize your images.

    You can see here how much images you have for this page and their sizes : http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/bb01ge/http://www.totalgeekdom.com/?page_id=1694

    #3. You are using older version of X and Cornerstone. Can you confirm that you are fully updated? (Theme and Plugins)

    You can find the latest version numbers here: (http://theme.co/changelog/) Then you can compare them to what’s installed on your site.

    If you find anything to be out of date, you can review our update guide.

    Hope this helps to figure out the issue.

    Cheers!

    Hello, thanks for the follow up.

    1. In regards to the JS errors with the Disqus embed, what do I need to do to fix this? You are correct that I don’t have Disqus comments enabled for this page, is there something else I need to do to make it so the JS errors don’t happen? Currently I only have the X Disqus Comments plugin, that’s the only one I’m using for comments.

    In regards to other plugins, about half of them are related to X I believe, I’ve trimmed out most of them and just kept essential, here is what I have currently

    All In One SEO Pack (Somewhat essential and would like to keep)
    Version 2.3.4

    Cornerstone (Required for X Theme)
    Version 1.2.3

    Facebook Comment Slider (Would like to keep if possible)
    Version 1.8.1

    Google XML Sitemaps (I don’t know if this is a must have, just thought it was helpful for site information for Google)
    Version 4.0.8

    Jetpack by WordPress.com (I don’t know any other way to get stats than to use Jetpack, I’ve turned almost everything in Jetpack off to eliminate conflicts)
    Version 3.9.6

    Shareaholic (Would like to keep this)
    Version 7.8.0.2

    Slider Revolution (Part of X)
    Version 5.1.4

    WPBakery Visual Composer (Originally was part of X I think, I still have pages built in X that used this, don’t know if I still need it or not)
    Version 4.8.1

    X – Disqus Comments (Part of X)
    Version 1.0.0

    X – Shortcodes (This is deactivated, do I still need it, or can I get rid of it?)

    In regards to the error with the missing image in Revolution slider, I went and looked in Revolution slider, but I don’t see anything when looking in it, it shows 5 slides in the builder, and there are 5 slides in the displayed slider on the page. How do I fix the missing image error?

    2. I have already gone through all or at least like 95% of the images on that page and optimized them both with a plugin (WP.smush I believe) and then manually did them as well. Just to check I started downloading images off the page and loaded them in that compressor.io link you shared with me, and there is no savings, they are already all optimized. If i use Lossy instead of lossless the savings is only a couple of percent at most, which doesn’t seem worth it. So I can’t really optimize the images any more as they’ve already been optimized for size. I don’t really know how to reduce the page size in terms of the images unfortunately, they are kind of helpful to have the images on the page to show the details and specifics. I’m open to suggestions though.

    3. I’m having trouble with updating X. I don’t know what happened, but for some reason my site is no longer validated?? I didn’t change anything, same URL as before, but when I searched the forum and found others and details about how to look into it I went into product validation and looked at the API key listed and then checked the one in my account under licenses and they didn’t match? I was very confused as I’ve never changed the original one that I put in when I bought X. So I updated it to the one listed in my account and it said X validated. Then I went back to try and update Cornerstone to 1.2.4 and it just errors out and says X isn’t validated. So I’m confused and don’t know how to fix that problem. Additionally I can’t seem to update the theme from X 4.3.1 to the newer 4.4.2. When I go to the updates page and hard refresh and click the check button it doesn’t show any theme update. Additionally it does not show a theme update in the theme page, it just shows my Child theme and then X. I assume it’s not showing me the update for X because the site isn’t validated, even though it says it’s validated? So I guess I need help fixing the issue with validation first, and then maybe that will allow me to update the theme and cornerstone.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

    Thanks for updating.

    #1. You should deactivate all plugins (except Cornerstone) to narrow down the issue so that you could determine which is actually causing this. Also remove X Shortcodes completely.

    #2. Your images are high in resolution so you might not be able to optimize those more. Like where you need 800×600 image, you are using 2000×1392 size. Certainly that’s not the best approach when you are using lot of images.

    #3. Kindly revoke the current API Key and then validate again with the purchase key. You can download purchase key from your themeforest download. That’s very simple now. Just validate verify new purchase and then assign your site – http://prntscr.com/au0yyg

    Hope this makes sense.

    Cheers!

    Hello,

    1. I’ve deleted X Shortcodes completely, what about WPBakery Visual Composer plugin, do I need to keep that in order to retain the pages I built in earlier versions of X (Pre-cornerstone)? My site has a mix of pages built before cornerstone using the visual composer, as well pages built after with Cornerstone, so I wasn’t sure if the WPBakery Visual Composer plugin was still needed to maintain functionality of those pages and editing them, I assume it is?

    I plan to go through and check the plugins one by one, but I need to update both X theme and Cornerstone and am still unable to get validation working, more on that in a minute.

    Before I move to far beyond that though I wanted to touch on the missing image error you found in Revolution Slider. How do I fix this? I looked through the sliders in the plugin and everything seems normal. What method can I use to fix this Revolution Slider error?

    2. I understand on the image sizes, and agree that I can’t really optimize their size any more than I already have in terms of file size. I do see what you’re saying in terms of image resolution. I guess in that regard I had thought that because the images were dynamically scaled based on screen resolution, that it was better to have slightly higher resolution to scale down to, as opposed to a situation in the future where with higher resolution screens that a 800×600 image might be too small and then look grainy when it’s scaled up. As I think more about this though, maybe I’ve misunderstood how the dynamic scaling works. So in the example given, is 800×600 the maximum size that image can ever be scaled up to? Like the container for that image has a max resolution of 800×600? So as long as my image is at least 800×800 I’ll always be okay? If this is the case, how do I figure out what the max image resolution sizes are for the various image elements on my pages? This way I could go through them and mark off the sizes needed and then reduce all of the resolutions lower.

    3. I followed the instructions and went over to my licenses and revoked my existing site and URL, then added the purchase code back in, then added my site back to the purchase code. I’ve added the site as totalgeekdom.com I left out the www, and also the http or https, not sure if that is right. Either way, it said X was validated and then I went back to my site and did a hard refresh and tried to update Cornerstone again, and was met with the same error “X is not validated” So I can’t update Cornerstone, nor receive the update for X theme because I can’t seem to validate X. Could you maybe have a peek at it using the login credentials I posted earlier in this thread? I’m not sure what I’m missing, but I must be missing something as I can’t seem to get the site to validate.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

    Thanks for updating.

    #1. If you have pages built with Visual Composer then you need to keep this. If you already have converted them to Cornerstone then you don’t need Visual Composer anymore.

    If you face issue on automatic update, let’s update the theme manually for now. You can download the installable theme from themeforest or here – https://community.theme.co/dashboard/

    You can just place the extracted theme folder x under wp-content/themes/ folder using FTP replacing the old theme folder.

    Also please follow the installation video to understand it better – https://community.theme.co/kb/theme-installation/

    #2. 800×600 was just an example. You can use 1000×700 or max 1200×800 for this but 2000×1392 is way more than usual. However I think that’s already explained enough and you need to decide that.

    #3. Kindly update the theme manually as mentioned on #1. After updating the theme, remove the folder cornerstone from wp-content/plugins/ by FTP and the latest version will be installed automatically. After update the validation will be fixed I believe.

    If you still face any issue, let us know in brief.

    Cheers!

    I followed the steps exactly as listed to update manually, and it appears my site is now running 4.4.2, as well as the newest version of Cornerstone. The problem is now my site is completely messed up. I don’t even know what to do to try and fix it. Everything has changed, the formatting, the elements, etc. it is all different. I am always really tentative of updates for this very reason, and now I’m somewhat at a loss of where to start to try and fix things. I’m still not sure why I lost the ability to have X update automatically within the WordPress dashboard. I don’t know if updating it manually has caused the issue, or if it’s just the update in general.

    Can you please look as soon as possible using the credentials I previously posted in this thread and see if you can figure out what happened and why the update so drastically altered the site. I don’t know what to do now and the site is now unusable. I would greatly appreciate someone looking at is soon as possible, right now I don’t even know what to do since everything is so broken all the sudden. I’m already getting messages from people telling me the site is broken, so I’m a bit in disaster mode as I don’t know how to fix it.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

    Glad to hear you were able to find the solution for the slight change in the child themes. It was a result of the X CSS path structure being changed back in version 4.3.3.

    If you want to proceed installing the new version of the child theme and migrating over the contents from the current child theme, I suggest that you setup a staging environment of your site which is an exact duplicate of your live site. This would avoid downtime on the live site when unexpected things occur upon updates.

    If you’re able to create a staging site and you need further help with the child theme, kindly let us know so that we could assist you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

    I’m trying to migrate over to the new Child Theme, but I’m a bit confused on a couple of things. I downloaded and have both the old and new X child themes in my themes directory. What I’m confused on is copying between the two of them as mentioned in the info post located here- https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/child-theme-updates/

    It says to “copy over your previous styles from the old child theme to the new child theme stylesheet” When I open both of these CSS files they just seem to be relatively generic text. I for some reason thought they would have more information in them, but maybe I’m wrong. My original X Child Theme CSS has the following info

    /*

    Theme Name: X - Child Theme: Integrity Light
    Theme URI: http://theme.co/x/
    Author: Themeco
    Author URI: http://theme.co/
    Description: Make all of your modifications to the light version of Integrity in this child theme.
    Version: 1.0.0
    Template: x

    */

    @import url( '../x/framework/css/dist/site/stacks/integrity-light.css' );

    The new Child Theme I just downloaded has the following

    /*

    Theme Name: X – Child Theme
    Theme URI: http://theme.co/x/
    Author: Themeco
    Author URI: http://theme.co/
    Description: Make all of your modifications to X in this child theme.
    Version: 1.0.0
    Template: x

    */

    So looking at these two I know that the import statement is missing, and I no longer need it given how the new child theme works. But I don’t understand what to copy as far as my old styles go, it just looks like the same text with no specifics on styles. Forgive my ignorance here, I just thought that the CSS file would be filed with specifics, but it doesn’t appear that’s the case. It looks like I could just use the CSS that comes in the new theme and nothing would change? But that doesn’t seem right.

    Additionally, I encountered the same thing with the PHP file. When I look at the PHP files I have this for my old one

    <?php

    // =============================================================================
    // FUNCTIONS.PHP
    // -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    // Overwrite or add your own custom functions to X in this file.
    // =============================================================================

    and this for the new Child Theme PHP

    <?php

    // =============================================================================
    // FUNCTIONS.PHP
    // -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    // Overwrite or add your own custom functions to X in this file.
    // =============================================================================

    // =============================================================================
    // TABLE OF CONTENTS
    // -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    //   01. Enqueue Parent Stylesheet
    //   02. Additional Functions
    // =============================================================================

    // Enqueue Parent Stylesheet
    // =============================================================================

    add_filter( 'x_enqueue_parent_stylesheet', '__return_true' );

    // Additional Functions
    // =============================================================================

    Which makes it seem like I don’t have to copy anything from one PHP file to the other as they are the same, plus the added bit which is mentioned that is needed.

    Also, when I look in the folders for views, in both the old and new child themes, both the global and Integrity folders are empty, which makes me assume there is nothing to copy over here as well?

    Maybe I’m missing something with this though, I just thought my old CSS would have a bunch of specifics in it, and I would need to copy those over in order for the website to look identical to how it does with the old child theme.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

    If there is no custom CSS then need to copy them 🙂 , but you must remember this.

    1. Remove this from style.css

    @import url( '../x/framework/css/dist/site/stacks/integrity-light.css' );

    2. Add this to child theme’s functions.php

    add_filter( 'x_enqueue_parent_stylesheet', '__return_true' );

    That’s the only change needed to update an old plain child theme.

    Cheers!

    I went through and swapped the old child theme for the new child theme, and it broke the site. It reverted back to looking like there was no CSS, everything was out of place and wrong. Swapping the file back to the older style child theme fixed it again.

    So I’m not sure what I’m missing. The CSS and function.php look exactly as listed in the previous post I made, which appear to match the way that it’s supposed to be and have the add_filter line. For some reason when I switch the the newer child theme though it breaks the site.

    I’d like to get it functioning with the newer child theme setup, can you please advise what to try?

    Thanks

    Hi There,

    We’re sorry you’re having this issue. I went in and login to your bluehost account to see the files. Unfortunately, you have remove the entire folder of the new child theme structure. Please upload the entire new child theme folder again and set it up. You may leave the old child theme structure as active but please do give us permission to activate the new child theme to check why the stylesheet is not picking up.

    Always,
    X

    Hello,

    I’ve uploaded the new child theme and set it up in the themes folder, next to the old child theme which is still working. I give you permission to activate the new child theme and try and figure out why it’s not working. I’ll wait to hear back!

    Thanks!
