My site is hosted on a university web server that doesn’t normally host WP. I started it on a local XAMPP dev space, then migrated it onto the server where I’m attempting to finish it. However I get frequent server disconnects that last from 10-20 minutes that seem to occur when using Cornerstone to edit, or when BackupBuddy is active (I’ve deactivated BB and wrote my own backup shell script instead). BackupBuddy uses wp-cron heavily with curl loopbacks, and I noticed that Cornerstone calls wp-cron often too (for the on-the-fly format refreshing I assume). With BackupBuddy, they note a problem with some servers being configured to disallow loopbacks:
I asked the server admin to check that for me, and they altered the configuration (reluctantly) to allow it, but I still get almost instantaneous server disconnects when editing with Cornerstone. Oddly, often I can continue in the Cornerstone window, editing and saving, for quite some time. Eventually the Cornerstone window freezes. It’s when I go to view the page or switch back to wp-admin that I see the disconnect. If I’ve done a number of edits, with apparently successful saves, many of them will not actually be saved and implemented when I’m able to view the site again. If I move to view the site earlier it’s usually disconnected after only one or two edits. It’s unreachable from other browsers or devices as well.
The web server is running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.13.0-73-generic x86_64). Drupal 7 is the CMS normally used by other sites on the server.
Questions:
— Is this a known issue, and if so, what is the cause?
— If I can trudge on and finish the site — slowly, on the server, or locally — will disconnects also occur when people visit the site? Or is it just a problem when Cornerstone is in use?
— Will other WP functions that call wp-cron (or whatever else is the issue) also cause disconnects?
— If I finish off the main Cornerstone pages, can they be converted to a format editable as plain text? Thanks.

December 18, 2015 at 1:27 am #712047Hello There,
We’re sorry you’re having this issue.
This is not a known issue. You might have something on your setup that was causing this. You could try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.
If not a plugin conflict, would you mind providing us with login credentials so we can take a closer look? To do this, you can make a post with the following info:
– Link to your site
– WordPress Admin username / password
– FTP credentialsDon’t forget to select Set as private reply. This ensures your information is only visible to our staff.
Pages created in Cornerstone cannot be edited as plain text or edited outside of it. You will loose the ability to edit it back in Cornerstone for doing so.
Always,

What do you mean by “something on your setup”? The WP setup, or the server setup?
I hardly have any plugins installed, and tried deactivating them already.
I will send the link and login info, but can’t send ftp credentials for university account.

December 18, 2015 at 3:44 am #712191Hi,
Can you confirm that you are fully updated? (Theme and Plugins)
The latest version numbers as of this time are: (http://theme.co/changelog/) Then you can compare them to what’s installed on your site.
Visual Composer v4.8.1
Revolution Slider v5.1.4
X Theme v4.3.0
Cornerstone v1.0.11If you find anything to be out of date, you can review our update guide.
Thanks
December 18, 2015 at 2:28 pm #712861Visual Editor and Revolution Slider are not installed.
I’ll manually update X and Cornerstone to see if that helps.
December 18, 2015 at 2:48 pm #712883Can’t update:
Product Validation
Yay! Automatic updates are up and running. You’re also welcome to browse and install Extensions.Updating Plugin Cornerstone (1/1)
An error occurred while updating Cornerstone: X is not validated. Validate X to enable automatic updates.I validated X several weeks ago. If I click on the “Validate X” link it just goes to the X Addons home page that says everything is fine. (“Congratulations! X is now installed (woo-hoo)”)
December 18, 2015 at 3:12 pm #712907Just discovered that the API key on the validation was set for the .dev URL, not the live one. But when I try to submit the new API for shorestations.ucsd.edu on the Product Validation page, I get
No Site URL provided.
December 18, 2015 at 3:37 pm #712945OK, I just updated X manually to 4.3, now a new API key is accepted, and I was able to update Cornerstone to 1.0.11
Just tried editing with Cornerstone and now the server disconnects even sooner — almost immediately, while still in the editor.
I also learned that there are other WordPress sites installed on this server, about 20 of them, and they don’t have issues.
December 18, 2015 at 5:44 pm #713096Hi there,
I just checked it and I’m not getting any disconnection in chrome. But yes, it disconnects in safari which could be due to this error :
ERR_ICANN_NAME_COLLISION
And safari won’t tolerate it. Please check it here https://laracasts.com/discuss/channels/general-discussion/dev-err-icann-name-collision
And it’s caused by accesing this url http://www.ssweb.dev/, and there are many of them. It’s probably related to migration process which makes urls unchanged. How did you do the migration?
Thanks!
December 18, 2015 at 6:06 pm #713114I wondered about those ssweb.dev links. I read somewhere that internal links to external domains could be an issue. One of the main things I have been trying to do is to correct those URL’s in Cornerstone, but every time I go in it disconnects.
I used BackupBuddy to migrate the site — which is supposed to change the URLs — but then had to also use Velvet Blues because many URL’s were still wrong… but even that didn’t get the urls in image links on Cornerstone-created pages.
— Why would the disconnect only happen when editing in Cornerstone?
— And are you saying that it’s just the browser being unable (unwilling) to connect, not the site itself?
I’ll give chrome a try right now.
December 18, 2015 at 8:02 pm #713224Hi there,
I’m not really sure, and yes, please do test it on another browser. I have no problem connecting with chrome.
Thanks and let me know 🙂
December 18, 2015 at 9:08 pm #713279It’s doing the same thing with chrome.
Just tried to edit one of the instances of http://www.ssweb.dev and after one save I could not view anything on the site.
Looks like the same kind of error (screenshot attached).
How can I edit these out if they make the browsers disconnect?? Port back to my local dev site again? (no…..)
December 18, 2015 at 10:42 pm #713360Hi there,
Please try it with another machine, like windows or another PC, and different internet connection. It works on my end, but with just missing images. I can’t suggest additional procedure since migration is done, and it could break it much if you do additional editing through database since you can’t edit it within cornerstone.
We have recommended procedure here https://community.theme.co/kb/cornerstone-migration/ for migrating cornerstone content.
Do you still have the backup from your local? You can re-migrate it to another staging site for testing.
Thanks!
