Eric-InPursuitParticipantWhat are the best practices for disabling W3 Total Cache?
I’ve seen that one should disable W3 Total Cache when developing a site. What exactly does this mean after a site is live? Do you disable W3 Total Cache when creating and or editing a blog post or new page etc..
Also, what is the preferred way to disable caching? Should the entire plugin be disabled or should each caching option be individually turned off?
Thanks for the help.

RupokMemberHi there,
Thanks for writing in! All of you performance related development should be implemented after completing the site. It’s because if you use W3 Total cache then you might not see the change you are making. So when your site is ready to go live, then activate caching and other performance tools.
Cheers!

Eric-InPursuitParticipantThanks for the reply. I understand that part. my concern is with my existing sites.
For example: Let’s say I’m building out a new landing page, on an existing site, for a promotion I’m running. Do I disable W3 Total Cache while I’m building the page?

RupokMemberHi there,
I think that’s already covered on the answer. You should not even use this when you are still developing the site. As you are already using, you should keep this disabled and continue to complete the development. Now it’s totally your concern that what you will do. It might cause issue or might not but to be on safe side, you should keep the caching disabled.
Hope this makes sense.

Eric-InPursuitParticipantRupok,
With all due respect, I still don’t feel like my question is being answered. If you are unable to answer the question, please pass this off to another support member who can. I’m not trying to be rude, I simply want to know the best practices for implementing the plugin that theme.co recommends using.
Here are my questions again. (NOTE – We are talking about sites that left the “development phase” years ago)
Should W3TC be deactivated when:
- Writing a blog post
- Building a landing page
- Adding a portfolio item
Where should the cache be turned off? There appear to be several options, each possibly working a little different.

RahulModeratorHi Eric
1. It is okay to keep it enabled while writing a blog post (If you’re not using cornerstone)
2. It is recommended to disable always while creating a new page.
3. Again, better to disable. Also, please make sure to check how things perform once you enable it after the edits are done. Also, please disable “Object cache” at all times because it always creates conflicts.
Thanks

Eric-InPursuitParticipantThanks Rahul!
FYI, your Knowledge Base article on Performance says to enable Object Cache. If it always creates conflicts you may want to update the KB.
