Hi again, good news and bad news, it looks like it worked, VC updated after I did everything mentioned above, but then when I was adding cornerstone and getting rid of shortcode, the update prompt came up again, and it was VC, and when I tried updating it this time, it’s the same message again –
“The update process is starting. This process may take a while on some hosts, so please be patient.
Updating Plugin WPBakery Visual Composer (1/1)Downloading update from http://www.wedrew.org/wp-content/themes/x/framework/plugins/js_composer.zip…
Unpacking the update…
Installing the latest version…
Removing the old version of the plugin…
Plugin update failed. An error occurred while updating WPBakery Visual Composer: Could not remove the old plugin.
All updates have been completed.”
I don’t know what to do. (if you need to have a look I put my log in details in an above message)
Thanks
July 7, 2015 at 5:27 pm #323714OOOOooooohhh noooo! I just checked the website and it’s compleatly wrong, there is script instead of images, imgeas the wrong size, everything is scew whiff! HELP HELP HELP!!! Please how do I get the site back!
July 7, 2015 at 6:56 pm #323780Hi Drew,
Sorry you’re having hard time doing this. Would you mind providing us FTP credentials (Filezilla) so we could have a closer look, or we can update your VC manually via FTP if you authorize us.
An error occurred while updating WPBakery Visual Composer: Could not remove the old plugin.
This means that either a file or the folder of old VC plugin itself is persistent not to delete. You need to remove this folder via FTP, before you can install the latest version.
there is script instead of images, imgeas the wrong size
Most probable this is because you still have the X|Shortcode instead of the Cornerstone.
Also please deactivate any caching plugin that the site might have when it is still on development, to apply/see the changes you made on the site immediately.
Thanks!

Your website was still showing X Shortcodes installed and VC activated (see: http://prntscr.com/7qd3wy). I just went ahead and cleared your cache and disabled it as we asked in our earlier responses.
I tried deleting Visual Composer /plugins/js_composer directory using the FTP account, but no luck. In this case, I’d advise you to contact your web hosting provider with regard to this issue. They should also be able to delete the plugin files and then you can re-install it from Addons > Extensions.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks!
July 8, 2015 at 8:37 pm #324984Hi, I contacted my host provider, they have deleted the /plugins/js_composer
Before I re-install it from Addons>extensions, do I need to get rid of the short code and how?
Because I de activated it last time but then I had a problem with VC again, so should I delete shortcodes first, and if so how? or just de activate it? Baby steps please 🙂
Thank you
July 8, 2015 at 9:48 pm #325055Hello Drew,
Since you now have Cornerstone it should be fine already. You can choose to delete the file inside plugins folder but it’s not really necessary as long as it is deactivated on your admin Plugin. Please note that on X V4.0 X-shortcode plugin was replace by Cornerstone that’s why you don’t need it anymore.
Hope this helps.
July 9, 2015 at 10:01 am #325663ho, sorry no I’m litle unclear on what I need to do, I have ask my host provider to get rid of /plugins/js_composer
I don’t need to delete shortcode, it is deactivated, but now what??
Do I need to re install then activate VC from add on > extensions??
July 9, 2015 at 12:46 pm #325804Hi There,
X-Shortcode is already integrated in Cornerstone so you need to delete or deactivate x-shortcode so that it would not conflict with cornerstone.
To re install your VC, delete it first in your plugins. located in wp_content/plugins/js_composer in your FTP. After you can re-install it from Addons > Extensions in your dashboard in wordpress.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks.
July 9, 2015 at 6:43 pm #326140Sorry, I’m finding this hard to follow because I keep being told something different. Please read the history before commenting.
I have installed corner stone. I will be using that from now on as advised.
I had problems updating VC, it would not delete – now it is finally gone with help from my hosting provider, but do I need VC if I have cornerstone??
I was told just deactivating shortcodes was enough? Regardless I have deleted it too, however my site is still down.
I’m very anxious now, my site has been down for nearly a week. Can you please tell me what to do to get it back – I gave you guys my passwords to fix it but it is the same.
PLEASE PLEASE help!!
July 9, 2015 at 7:33 pm #326171Hi Drew,
You don’t need VC when you’re using cornerstone. You can only use one builder one at a time per page/post. If you think you have existing content that was made from VC, then you should install VC as well but if you’re starting from scratch, then we recommend to use cornerstone and not VC.
And upon checking your site, it shows VC shortcodes. Which means, you have existing VC contents/pages which of course you should install VC. But, you have option to use cornerstone and deleting your existing VC content/pages. It’s up to you if you wish to start over again.
Would you mind providing your admin login credentials in private too? I’ll see if I can give more advice based on your existing setup.
Again, we’re not forcing you to use VC or cornerstone. And you should decide based from your existing setup and content.
Thanks!
