I’m a rookie, please help…I attempted to change some pages on my site and the Visual Composer did not work. I deactivated all plugins and reactivated – still not working. My theme had not been updated since the initial install. Background*** – A vendor installed my website using a child theme in 2014. I don’t have access to the parent theme (vendor no longer around) so I purchased my own X theme, last night. I haven’t downloaded anything because I don’t want to delete and destroy my site. Is it possible to get my site working again? What should I do next?

    Hi there,

Seems like you have outdated theme or plugins. Can you confirm that you are fully updated? (Theme and Plugins)

You can find the latest version numbers here: (http://theme.co/changelog/) Then you can compare them to what’s installed on your site.

If you find anything to be out of date, you can review our update guide.

Thank you for responding. Before I update, I want to know will my recently purchased parent theme be a compatible replacement for the one the vendor used and that I don’t have access to?

    Hey There,

    Thanks for writing in!

Regretfully, at this time I am not entirely certain what it is you’re trying to do.
If you wouldn’t mind providing us with a little more clarification on what it is you’re wanting to do. We’ll be happy to provide you with a response once we have a better understanding of the situation.

    Thanks for understanding!

Ok, last time maybe my verbiage is incorrect, hope this helps…
    1) On my sidebar, I see in “Appearance,” the Active X theme version 1.8.4, which I am assuming is the child theme. Correct?
    2) I had no idea how to update the theme so I figured I needed the Zip files from the parent theme, so I purchased my own copy of Active X this week.
    3) With these two separate products… (the theme I purchased which I call the parent theme…correct?) and the (version 1.8.4 already uploaded in WP, which I’m calling the Child theme, correct?)…

Will uploading the recently purchased theme’s zip file (parent theme) to WP allow me to maintain the current design and content of my site while also getting the VC to work?

    Hi there,

Your current theme is obsolete and I can’t say it would be totally compatible with new version since lots of things has been changed and replaced meantime. I’d suggest to use a staging server and update everything there. You wil lsee how the update will go.

    Hope this makes sense.

Ok.. I was able to update the theme and updated and then deactivated plugins but cannot get the VC to work. I tried the Front-End Editor and nothing. Please advise.

    Hi There,

Glad you were able to update. Please check this:https://community.theme.co/kb/integrated-plugins-visual-composer/

One thing worth noting is that the frontend editor works with the Visual Composer native elements. The front end editor is tailored to Visual Composer, and as such we’re unable to provide in depth support for it. Most themes that offer extensive Visual Composer integration disable this, as it increases complexity for how shortcodes are handled. It also forces the theme to use a particular grid system that we feel is not ideal. Please use backend editor instead.

    Hope this helps.
