I watched the video in text editor. I want to use the read more option to shorten up the text so it fits properly next to an image and does not continue down page. I previously with other software would just insert the read more and in a editor would just place 400 or 500 characters or how ever many made it look right. If i am understanding correctly here, do i need to create a seperate page first along with a link to that page to make this happen or is there an easier way?

I CAN NOT edit post so i am adding. Why edits will not appear, don’t want to make it look like i am bumping.
    What i wanted to edit:
I performed the read more function as shown in video but the text after link to read the rest of content shows up anyway. http://www.nitrokick.net
Would like it to look like this with read more and then close at end. http://www.irontrainer.co

    Hi Don,

The read more tag only works on posts not for pages. I assume you have a custom homepage where it displays a page, in that case you will need to create a template for your homepage (we recommend you use a child theme for this) and then modify some parts as described here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Customizing_the_Read_More#How_to_use_Read_More_in_Pages

Let us know if you need anything further.

    Thanks!

I don’t get it do you know if there is a plug in for this? Sorry i just find this difficult especially when coming from a software that i just dropped in read more and it did everything beautifully. I prefer a plug in that does it for you if not i just forget it. I’ll break up text over page. That’s what i have had to do at this point because i can’t figure it out. The text looks bad when there is 900 words next to a photo and takes up half the page.

    Hi Don,

In order to use “Read More” the content needs to be created as a WordPress post. That’s how the other site is setup – as a blog. Instead you created all that content manually. So there isn’t a place for any button to link to. As of right now, your content just exists inside that page.

For example, you have “Read More” links here: http://nitrokick.net/iron-blog

So would i need to re set up the home page as a new post and then every other page as a post or just every other besides home as a new post? and not a new page? I can do that if that’s what you mean? Is it best to leave permalink to default or is it ok if i do custom and /irontrainer.
Hopefully i understand that correctly it would be easy enough to re create all the pages as “NEW POST”
wHEN YOU SAY IT ALL EXHISTS INSIDE THAT PAGE DO YOU MEAN “IRON BLOG” “DEFAULT BLOG” OR “HOME”?
    Thank you,

I am wrong on my thinking there. i just went to do a new post, but realized there is no link. I want the blog page to be a blog, not my home page. My site is site first and blog second. So the only other thing i can think of is I have to make my blog page as “home page”. New posts now do not link anywhere so you can not read beyond the read more. Don’t understand where are they suppose to link? Completely confused. Probably easier to understand if i had not been building sites as home page adding pages everything works. i don’t care how it works, i want to fix it to this format, but i just don’t get it.

After more brain destruction and not understanding yur answer i built home and blog on twenty fourteen theme and blog entries worked fine. i did everything as i did in x theme, except permalink setting was at post name and in my x theme it was set custom. I set same in x and posts work fine.
