I am experiencing numerous issues with your X Theme on one of my very important client’s WordPress sites. I seriously need your help in getting everything straightened out as quickly as possible.
I have made a major investment of time and money into your X Theme. Everything was going great until you decided to change things and move away from using the Visual Composer and start using your Cornerstone.
I have made a staging clone of the actual live site so that we can use it to work out all of the issues I am having without breaking the live site. Once everything has been resolved in the staging clone, then we can push it to replace the live site.
Here is the URL of the staging clone of the site:
http://staging1.cocgf.org
It is running WordPress version 4.3.1.
It is using version 4.1.1 of the X Theme.
It is using version 1.0.0 of the X – Child Theme: Integrity LightViewing the details of the X Theme version 4.1.1, it tells me there is a new version of X available. When I click on Validate X to enable automatic updates, it takes me to a page that says Congratulations! X is now installed (version 4.1.1). But when I click on head over to the Extensions page and install Cornerstone to finalize the theme setup process, and I click on install Cornerstone… it says The plugin does not have a valid header. Download failed. Authorization Required.
There is an update of the WPBakery Visual Composer that I used to build the site from 4.1.3 ti 4.8.1. But when I try to install it, it says
So I am stuck. I cannot update Visual Composer, and I cannot install Cornerstone. Please help me get this issue resolved quickly. My client is pressuring me to make all kinds of updates to the site now!
Thank you very much,
John R. Webster

I noticed that I didn’t complete one of the sentences in my previous post:
There is an update of the WPBakery Visual Composer that I used to build the site from 4.1.3 ti 4.8.1. But when I try to install it, it says “Destination folder already exists. Plug install failed.”

December 1, 2015 at 6:07 pm #687096This issue just keep getting worse. I seriously need your help as soon as possible to get all of my issues resolved. Please hook me up with someone who can help me.
I am having issues with your product validation methods. The staging clone site I am using to work out the issues without affecting the live site needs to have a different temporary URL in order to work. But now your product validation page in WordPress is saying that the sites URL is not a match for my API key.
I need to be able to keep the live site working while I resolve all of the issues on the staging clone version of the site. How can I do this? I don’t believe I should have to purchase another license for this.
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks,
JRWDecember 2, 2015 at 1:36 am #687504Hi there,
Your site requires authentication credentials.
Please try to install cornerstone manually, to do so download X Theme folder from Theme Forest, you can locate the “cornerstone.zip” file under (“X/framework/plugins/”). Then unzip the plugin file and use a FTP Client software (FileZilla Client) to upload it into your server (“ROOT/wp-content/plugins/”) folder.
Once you have uploaded it into the server, login to your WordPress back-end and head over to the Plugins -> Installed plugins to activate the plugin.
You can try to update visual composer the same way, locate “js-composer.zip” file under (“X/framework/plugins/”). Then unzip the plugin file and use a FTP Client software (FileZilla Client) to upload it into your server (“ROOT/wp-content/plugins/”) folder. Make sure you overwrite existing js-composer folder.
Hope it helps.
December 2, 2015 at 11:23 am #688584Howdy,
Thanks for the timely reply. I will appreciate it if you can hang in there with me until I get all of my issues resolved. That will be awesome! I love X and have used it on a number of sites, but with the advent of Cornerstone things have gotten skewed a bit.
I have Produce Validation for the X Theme running successfully.
As I was waiting for your reply, I continued working on the site. When I attempted to install
Cornerstone from the Extensions page for X within WordPress, it locked me out of the site and gave me a server error.I was able to login via FTP using FileZilla and delete the Corner stone folder and now I am able to login to the backend again.
What I need to know is explicitly step-by-step how I am suppose to continue working on the site moving forward. The entire existing site was developed using the original version of Visual Composer that came bundled with X. I really liked how the visual composer worked. It gave me the kind of control that I need as a designer to build the site.
However, things such as the Parallax and Fade Effects have stopped working, and I have had to rebuild some things as a result.
I would very much like to continue working with X and not loose all the time and money I have invested in it, but I need to get things straightened out.
My first approach is to update Visual Composer and see if that gets things working again. However, there is no option to update VC within WordPress, and when I try to install the latest version of VC manually, it won’t let me do it and says that the folder all ready exists. So how do I get VC updated? My guess is you are going to tell me to delete VC first and then re-install in manually. I have two concerns about doing this. First of all, VC was suppose to be included with X but since I can’t updated it from within X in WordPress does that mean that I will have to purchase in separately? And also, what happens to all the work that I did designing the site with VC if I delete it? Will I loose all of my templates and page formatting?
The second approach I can consider is to switch the site over from being base on VC and get it all working with Cornerstone. How do I do this? It would really be helpful to me (and I imagine a lot of other people using X and in the same predicament), if you had a very detailed step-by-step procedure in a support document of video that clearly explains how one is suppose to take a site that was developed with VC and convert it into a site using Cornerstone.
It’s a mystery to me how to achieve this. If I need to delete VC and the old X shortcodes before I can install and use Cornerstone, then won’t I loose all of the work that I have all ready done? That would not be a good thing. It would essentially mean that I have to rebuild the whole site.
I have used Cornerstone on another more recent site, and I like it okay. It has some pretty cool features. However, from my standpoint as a Designer, it does not give me as much control of the design nuances that are critical to me as Visual Composer did. For each element that is added to a page, I need to have full control over every aspect for that element, including all of the CSS styling options like margins, padding, etc. I don’t seem to have that kind of control with Cornerstone and I have to write my own custom CSS in order to fine tune my designs.
I anxiously await your reply to my concerns, and please be as thorough as possible with your recommendations. Time is of the essence with this site.
Thanks a bunch, I really appreciate and value your support immensely. Without it, I am lost in the woods.

December 2, 2015 at 12:21 pm #688713Hello, it’s me again…
First let me say that I have kept WordPress, Themes, and Plugins consistently updated to their latest versions. This morning, I updated Gravity Forms plugin. I also attempted to update the Revolution Slider plugin that came bundled with the X Theme. The little update arrows are still spinning after about half-an-hour. It looks like it is not going to accept the update? And of course, I still have it saying there is a new version of WPBakery Visual Composer available, but there is no option to update it from within the X Theme in WordPress and as I have all ready stated, numerous attempts to update it manually from within the X Theme in WordPress have failed.
So why is it that the premium plugins that came bundled as part of the X Theme cannot be updated from within the X Theme? Please help me to understand how I am suppose to make these things work.
My next idea is to try and manually upload the Visual Composer via FTP and have it over write the version on the server. Is this a good idea? Will I loose my existing stylings? Please be very clear with your answer.
Thanks,
JRWDecember 2, 2015 at 2:26 pm #688948Hello JRW,
First please make sure that you’re X theme is updated. X Theme 4.2.2 is out now. Please visit our changelog.
You don’t need to purchase a copy of Visual Composer. We can update Visual Composer manually by uploading the unzip folder of js_composer.zip file that you can find in your-wordpress-folder\wp-content\themes\x\framework\plugins to your-wordpress-folder\wp-content\plugins. To make sure, please remove the existing js_composer folder there before uploading the latest file. The existing content, style and templates will still be there. It is save in the database. You will not loose it.
To switch from Visual Composer to Cornerstone, we have to rebuild the page again from scratch using Cornerstone. They are different page builder and there’s no easy way of transferring pages but to build it again. In using Cornerstone, there is always, ID, CLASS and Style field if you want to update/customize the default element style per stack.
X shortcode plugin functionality is now integrated into Cornerstone. You will not loose any content when you uninstall this plugin and install Cornerstone.
Hope this helps.
December 2, 2015 at 4:35 pm #689129Thanks for hanging in there with me. I really appreciate it.
I am using the latest version of the X Theme (4.2.2).
I followed your detailed instructions and I was able to get the WPBakery Visual Composer to update. It is a tedious process, but it worked. It sure would be nice if you could simply update the plugin from within X and WordPress in the normal manner.
Next, I need to update the Revolution Slider that came bundled with the X Theme. Can you please give me explicit detailed instructions on how you recommend I do it?
So far every time I try it tells me that the folder all ready exists. Do I need to follow the same procedure as I did with the VC plugin?
Having to rebuild the entire site in order to switch to Cornerstone would be extremely labour intensive. I am very disappointed with Themeco and what has happened with the X Theme. I invested a lot of money and time into the X Theme with the promise that it would be easy to update and maintain into the future.
I suggest that you come up with some really detailed tutorials or guides about how to rebuild a site using X and VC to one using Cornerstone that would help me or others that are in the same situation.
Thanks again for helping me out.
JRWDecember 2, 2015 at 10:02 pm #689533Hello There,
You should be able to update everything from your dashboard. If you face automatically installing plugins through X Addons page then you can always install it manually.
The plugins are included with your download of X. They are located in x\framework\pluginsHope you will be able to install it from there.
If you face directory exist issue, then let’s remove the plugin directory from wp-content/plugins/plugin_name by accessing with FTP.
If you still face any issue feel free to let us know. We’ll be happy to assist you.
Cheers!
