I’ve read through various questions and answer on the forum but haven’t been able to nail down exactly what makes the most sense.
All of my existing pages were built with Visual Composer, the one built into pre-4.0. I’ve got a specific page that I want to update and change a bunch of things on, keeping only some of the content, my goal being to update the new page to reflect the new content, while still keeping the permalink page ID that is linked other places.
Should I update the page using Visual Composer, or should I update the page using Cornerstone? Or is that not even possible to update a VC built page with Cornerstone. I don’t want to have to build the page again in the future, so if there is an end date to Visual Composer support in X then I guess I should build using Cornerstone.
If I do update the page and use Cornerstone, will it matter that most of the site is built in VC and just this one page is built in Cornerstone?
My plan was to create a new private page that I could use as my draft for the building process. Then once I’m completely satisfied with what I’ve built, I’ll save that as a template and then load it on the page that already exists. Allowing a seamless transfer from the old page to new, without doing any of the work on the publicly visible page. Would this be possible with Cornerstone considering the page is built in Visual Composer? Does that plan make sense as far as updating the page behind the scenes without affecting the existing live page?
Thanks for the help!
June 5, 2015 at 10:44 pm #294069Hi there,
Thanks for writing in! Let me clarify your doubts here.
Basically you cannot Edit a Page that is built using Cornerstone or vice versa. You have to recreate any pages that has been built using Visual Composer by using Cornerstone plugin to completely migrate. However you can have separate pages in the same site, one page that has been created using VC and another one using Cornerstone.
Other than that, you can rest assured that there will be no timeframe on “migrating” away from Visual Composer and can continue to utilize the plugin as they always have. In other words, you have the choice between using the Visual Composer or Cornerstone.
Please refer to the following post for a detailed information (https://community.theme.co//forums/topic/cornerstone-release/page/14/#post-286196).
If you still have any confusions, please let us know.
Thank you!

That makes sense on only being able to edit in VC or Cornerstone and not vice versa. I’ll work on migrating the old pages over from Visual Composer to Cornerstone when I can set some time aside to do so. I’ve watched the Cornerstone video and been reading the threads in regards to Cornerstone, one thing I haven’t seen, or maybe missed, is there a way to duplicate content from Visual Composer over to Cornerstone? I assume not since the two plugins do not talk to each other. Which means that I’ll need to manually copy over content from my old VC built pages into the new Cornerstone pages.
One thing I wanted to clarify, just to be sure I was thinking about this correctly. If I build a new private page in Cornerstone and copy all the content over from my old Visual Composer page, then save the new Cornerstone page as a template, can I move back to the old VC built page, wipe it clean, and then load the template I built in Cornerstone with the old VC content?
I’m just trying to think of the most seamless way to approach this process while keeping the existing site and pages live and only having a short couple minute span during the transition of the page.
Thanks!
PS. On a separate note, I encountered an issue with a couple of pages on the 4.01 update. These pages used to be full width, and now they seem to be in a container, so there is a light grey border that seems to surround the content which is on a white background. I tried changing the template (full-width, no-container, etc.) but it doesn’t seem that I can get the look I had before. This occurred on my posts, they are no longer full width, and on the about page.

http://www.totalgeekdom.com/?page_id=2I’d like to get them back to being back on a full width white background, all my posts and the about page. I like the content position being in a container so that it’s not completely to the edge of the page, but I must be missing something as I can’t seem to get back to the look it had prior to the 4.0 update.
Thanks again!
June 7, 2015 at 6:24 am #294916Hey there,
Yes, you can save the page you’ve built as a template. I recommend that you back-up your site first so you have a copy in case anything happens.
For your other concern, please use Blank – No Container as your page template. For your post, that is correct. We do not have a Fullwidth layout for post. And, your setting is as follows.
Thanks.
