I followed the instructions on how to update the theme. Since it was the first time, it was a bit difficult trying to understand how to do ftp file transfer. I installed Core FTP to do this. I did what was detailed in the instructions; I dropped the unzipped Xfile into the wp-content/themes/ and selected X file. From what I see when I open the wp-content/themes/ is showing the old X file and the new one as a new file within the old one (wp-content/themes/x/x) .

I am fricking out right now and dont know how to fix this. What should I do? Is this correct?

    Hey Karen,

If you have problems overwriting the files in your server, I recommend that you just delete the old X theme and upload the new one. The child theme will never be updated. The idea there is that the child theme remains your own in terms of design and customizations while X parent theme keeps on being updated for enhancements and fixes.

    Hope that helps. 🙂

Ok, so.. Every time I update the parent theme, the child theme gets updated in terms of funcionality and performance only, the design remains the same . Right?

So, if I delete the old x (Shoud I do this through FTP?) and install the new one I wont loose anything on the child theme?

Sorry, Im not a developer, Im a newbie and Im trying to do this by myself.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Karen,

Exactly when you update the X theme the child theme will inherit the new updates of X theme after update.

Just delete the old X theme and upload the new one don’t touch the child theme files then that won’t effect your design and customization you may have done in your child theme.

    Thanks
