Hi –
I’ve installed The Grid in order to display an Instagram feed.
I’ve been round and round with this. I read this thread, too, to no avail:
I had already done exactly what it said to do in that thread, and when I plug in my access token, The Grid comes back telling me that I need to authorize my application with scope=public_content (see screenshot). However, if I go through the process to do that, Instagram comes back and tells me that “you do not need to submit for review for this use case”.
But the only way to access your public_content permission is to submit for review. I’ve provided some screenshots of this maddening situation.
I also cleared the cache, in case you are wondering.
Please help.
January 13, 2017 at 11:54 pm #1329588Hi there,
I think Instagram doesn’t require token anymore to access the feed, it’s the same in Rev. slider, the token option is removed. The feed should be accessible just as long it’s open for public.
Would you mind providing your admin and login credentials? I like to test it first 🙂
And please provide your Instagram username.
Thanks!

It looks like it still dependent to Instagram API. Would you mind providing your Instagram login credentials as well? I need to get the Client ID and Secret Key to authorize your site in Instagram.
Thanks!

Oops, it requires verification as logged in from my end. Please verify or maybe you can provide the Client ID and Secret Key 🙂
Thanks!

As for Sandbox mode, if you look at my very first post at the top, and look at the first screenshot, I tried to go through the review process to get out of sandbox mode. I followed the directions, and it took me to the submission page. But when I clicked the box saying “I want to install a third party widget to show Instagram content on my website.” it comes back and says:
You do not need to submit for review for this use case. Some widgets may ask you to register a new client ID, but you should not submit it for review for the widget to work. Your client can remain in sandbox mode and the widget will have access to your last 20 media. If you are having issues with the widget, please contact the owner of the widget directly.
So how on Earth do you get out of sandbox mode in this case???
January 18, 2017 at 12:10 am #1334588Hello There,
You have get your app reviewed by Instagram first.
From this link: https://www.instagram.com/developer/clients/manage/ >Click Edit(Manage Button) for your client, Click on the Permissions tab and submit for review. Once approved, u will be able to click Go Live
Hope this helps.
January 18, 2017 at 10:47 am #1335267I hear what you are saying, but when I go to that link, and do exactly what you are saying, it comes back and says that I don’t need a review! Please try it and see what I mean. It doesn’t work.
(See previous screenshots.)
I’m so frustrated!
January 18, 2017 at 5:52 pm #1335845Hi there,
It will work even with sandbox, but with few limitation. The review is something we can’t fully understand as well. The plugin will only display the data that Instagram supplies to it. Submission for review will only lift the limitation related to the data. The limitation has nothing to do with the plugin and there is no widget, it’s a plugin. I’m not sure which widget is referred to that message.
The plugin has no limit with how many entries it could be displayed since it’s only processing the data provided to it. If provided data entries are about 40, there is no reason for the plugin to display it as 20.
You can proceed and ignore it, but it’s limited to 20 entries as they said.
Thanks!
January 19, 2017 at 1:06 pm #1337073Thanks. I totally hear what you are saying. It’s Instagram holding back rather than the app.
It’s so odd, because I see that the Instagram demo for The Grid shows more than 20 – by a lot – so clearly THEY have figured out how to get out of Sandbox mode. It seems so unfair that you can’t even access your own Instagram account when you have jumped through all those hoops to get the access token.
I hope if anyone figures it out they will post it here.
January 19, 2017 at 5:39 pm #1337489Hi there,
I did a similar project before which requires submission for review to Instagram. I think they will approve it once you met the requirement. You’ll see the criteria needed for the review here https://www.instagram.com/developer/review/
That issue with that is, you’re not developing your own application, rather, just using another plugin and the only purpose of the plugin is to pull entries, which maybe, why they recommend that you don’t have to submit a review request. I could be wrong, it’s just my personal experience. Unfortunately, that is something I can’t help with but you could contact someone familiar with Instagram App development.
Thanks.
January 19, 2017 at 7:51 pm #1337698I think you hit the nail on the head. The problem is that I’m using a 3rd party app, rather than developing my own. I guess that is why the demo for The Grid has the full Instagram feed. They developed the app!
Once again, I really, really appreciate everything you did to try and help me. You guys have outstanding support.
