Wordpress newbie here working with Integrity (used to serif webplus X1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6!!) I need to put a semi-transparent background behind some text as it’s real difficult to read over an image. At the moment I have this;

Thank you for writing in! Unfortunately, there is no CSS property background-opacity, but you can fake it by inserting a pseudo element. First is you need to remove the background image and set a background color transparent to the actual content band. And place the background image instead on the back of it, here’s how you it. Add this under Custom > CSS in the Customizer.
#x-content-band-1:after { content: ""; background-image: url('/wp-content/uploads/path/to/imagefile.jpg'); opacity: 0.5; display: block; top: 0; left: 0; bottom: 0; right: 0; position: absolute; z-index: -1; }Replace the

Thanks for that …. I tried it and it set my entire page background to a tiled version of the background image that I only wanted just for that band, despite specifically re-naming it to the specific x-content-band-(mine). I am now wondering about another option though as I don’t want the entire background image faded down just so the words are easier to read in a small portion of the background. I simply want the words to be able to be read above the image. Would, therefore, a block or pull quote be something I can use within a content band and how do I achieve that within the band? My initial fiddling gets the text outside of the block quote box and the box not where it needs to be either!

Many thanks for that. I’ll have a look at those this evening. The given URL for the images is just the current online holder for them as I need to work on the site locally before going live. We cannot afford to loose our booking page whilst the replacement website is built!
I have also found a work-around to get what I want by producing a button which has all the text I need displayed with a background, albeit not with a semi-transparent background, so it’s not an ideal solution.I just want to find a way in which the text in the above image may be more easily read over the background and wondered if a block or pull quote might be the answer. Happy for other suggestions anyone may have …

You’ll note I have the same issue with the other content band too with text not showing up too over the background. Ideally I’d like them to be semi-transparent rather than blocked colour behind the text but beggars cannot be choosers! The other content band also seems to not like the graphic (of our awards) as it is 1200x500px but it isn’t all showing for some reason if you could offer a reason why that might be the case I’d be eternally grateful. I think you misunderstand … I do not want the whole background behind the text to be semi-transparent. I need to put something between the text and backgound which make the text clearer to read … JUST where the text is, not to cover the entire background. Something hopefully semi-tramsparent (so you can still see the background). I’ve drawn what I want to achieve on the attached image.

in the meantime you can try something similar to below. You can add this under Custom > CSS in the Customizer or in your child theme’s style.css file.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I’m working locally at the moment using instant wordpress on a USB memory stick as we cannot afford to have our site down whilst the new one is being built. Cutting off the ‘newwebsite’ from the URL will deliver you to our old site until this is finished.

However, how do I customise the text to fit centrally to the button below it? Ideally I don’t want it spreading across the full width of the content as I have it here.
