    Hi,

My website http://www.motoyogo.com was built by an agency a few years ago. I’ve decided to try and build a new one myself using X theme. I don’t really know what I’m doing.

I’ve installed WordPress again and loaded X theme on in a subdirectory http://www.motoyogo.com/2016stage

I figure it will be easy to move it to the root directory when I’m ready. Am I wrong?

Also, I haven’t created a child page. I’m working off the parent page, because I reckon I won’t be able to do anything too custom or sophisticated to warrant a child page. Am I wrong?

    Thanks!

    April

    Hi April,

Thanks for writing in and welcome to X. We have a guide for migrating your site. We advise that you do not just plainly move your site to the main directory but go through the process as if you were moving it to another domain or host. The process outlined in this link will ensure everything works when it is transferred.

https://community.theme.co/kb/cornerstone-migration/ If you find this a bit overwhelming when you get to that point, I suggest try using one of the plugins suggested like duplicator.

Regarding not using a child theme, if you won’t be editing the theme PHP files you should be fine without using it. We advise that you do a backup of your site and your customizer settings before updating X and Cornerstone as site files will be overwritten during update. In most cases you will be fine, but this is the best practice.

If you need any assistance along the way, we’re here to help! Have a wonderful day! 🙂
