I’m using the recent posts shortcode on my site.

I want the featured images to be square rather than cropped into rectangles. Any advice on how to accomplish this?

Thanks for writing in! You can add this under Custom > CSS in the Customizer.

.x-recent-posts .x-recent-posts-img {
	padding-bottom: 80%;
}

While I have your attention, is there a way to stylize the Archive page?

As an example:

I would like it to show hyperlinks, line breaks, and maybe put the featured image to the side of the content.

Please add the following code to Appereance Customizer Custom CSS

.archive .entry-featured {
    float: left;
    margin-right: 20px;
    margin-top: 20px;
    width: 26%;
}

Is there any reason that the line breaks and hyperlinks are not honored in the archive page?

Hello There,

Thanks for updating in! The archive pages displays the excerpts. By default, WordPress automatically strip off any html code such as a link and line breaks in the excerpts. This is why it is not displaying in your end. To know more about excerpts, please check this link: http://buildwpyourself.com/wordpress-manual-excerpts-more-tag/
