I added a video (.mov) on our client’s site’s media library and attempted to add it to a page using the VC self-hosted video shortcode from the add element. When I attempt to add the video at the poster image, it first accepts the video but after I click save and update then go back to the ‘widget’ to edit it there is no poster image. A black box shows up on the site but no video.
I also put the URL for the video in M4V and OGV fields, but nothing.
I don’t see any other way to add the video using this VC ‘element’ am I missing something? I must be.
Does this theme and VC not support .mov files even though WordPress does?
On a side note, why aren’t there any tutorials or instructions on how to use these VC elements?
July 5, 2014 at 10:26 pm #65417Hey Jeff,
.mov files will only play in a browser that has Quicktime installed. WordPress doesn’t support .mov files by itself. Please place the .mp4 version of your video in the M4V field. For more information, please see http://theme.co/x/member/kb/shortcode-walkthrough-x-video-player/.
We have tutorials for the VC elements, please see our Knowledge Base.
Thanks.
March 30, 2016 at 1:51 pm #859228Hello,
I have a film on dropbox that I’m trying to embed in my site. It’s .mov — does that mean I absolutely need to convert it to stream it on the website, or is there a work around?
Thanks!
MayaMarch 30, 2016 at 9:07 pm #859918You will need to convert it. There is no workaround.
Thanks.
April 3, 2016 at 5:55 am #864562Thanks for the reply — I’ve converted to .mp4 (which is much less quality, so that’s a shame, any work around to that?) but now I can’t figure out how to embed it with the short code.
Is there something wrong with this code in a text box?[x_video_player type=”16:9″ mp4=”https://www.dropbox.com/s/um1bnla5znmbsca/Stuffed%20for%20KS%202016-03-28.mp4?dl=0″] also tried [x_video_player type=”16:9″ mp4=”https://www.dropbox.com/s/um1bnla5znmbsca/Stuffed%20for%20KS%202016-03-28.mp4″]
I’ll send my log in details…

Your shortcode is correct. The problem is that Dropbox doesn’t allow the video to be played inside video player. I would recommend that do a different approach. You can upload the video in your server or vimeo and then use the protected content element. In the protected element, you insert the video shortcode of course with the video being hosted not in dropbox. When you email them the link of the page, you can include the password so that they can watch the video upon entering the password for the said protect content area.
Hope this make sense.
