We recently installed Theme X version 4.4.2 on our Intranet which is currently running WP 4.3.3. We have been holding back on upgrading WP since some of our plugins do not support 4.4.x or 4.5.x, yet.

Anywho, when we upgraded X to 4.4.2, from 4.4.1, the search does not provide the correct results anymore. It simple seem to get some pages and present them and the pages does not need to even include the search term at all. Usually we get the same pages for any search term, but some search terms present a different set of random results.

To test we installed e.g. “Better Search” and replace the theme Search with what “Better search” can offer and then the search works again. But then we are not getting the nice Layout that we get with X. we have also disabled other plugins but without getting to the root of the problem. Since this is a Live Intranet used by everyone at our company I can not switch theme so this I can not test.

But based on the test I have done I am reasonably certain that the problem is within the Theme.

Since this is an Intranet we also have a hard time providing you with login since you’d need a VPN connection and signing a NDA. A better option would be if you can remotely control e.g. my laptop while investigating. If you’d like to opt for remote access to our Intranet I am more then willing to provide a solution for this.

Until then, what can I provide in terms of tests and logs to aid you?

We did some more tests and installed “Dave’s WordPress Live Search” and configured to use its own CSS for the “Live Search”. That however can not be used for the Search results page.

Using this we get the right results with the “Live Search” in the “Live Search Drop down” BUT we still do not get the right results when we press enter and use the X CSS to display the search results.

So we are still pretty sure this is something in X. But we do not yet know what.

    Hi there,

Thanks for writing in! It would be better if you provide your URL and some screenshot that what’s wrong with X search and what you are missing.

    Cheers!
