Does the X Theme or WordPress provide a robots.txt and/or sitemap.xml file?
Or do I have to provide either/both?If I am to provide either or both files, do I just add them to my root folder via ftp?
Thank you!
StefanoNovember 3, 2015 at 11:56 pm #651741Hi Stefano,
Thanks for writing in! Robots.txt or XML sitemap is not generated by X or any theme.
Sometimes WordPress creates the robots.txt (depends how you have installed it) and the file usually resides in your site’s root folder. If you do not have a robots.txt file in your site’s root directory, then you can always create one. And you have to generate the XML sitemap for your site. I would suggest you to use WordPress SEO by YOAST to control this easily.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
February 18, 2016 at 10:31 pm #802742I installed WordPress SEO by YOAST and ran as much of it as I understood and:
1) It says it created an XML sitemap but I don’t see it when I look into my root. Is it stored somewhere else?Yoast enables me to add meta tag templates in all except the Homepage and Blog page.
2) Does that mean there’s no need for me to go into each page and add meta tags in the header?
3) For Home and Blog it directs me to edit the raw html. But since the pages were built in Cornerstone, it says
Hold up! You’re welcome to make changes to the content. However, these will not be reflected in Cornerstone. If you edit the page in Cornerstone again, any changes made here will be overwritten. Do you wish to continue?
So how should I edit the meta tags in those pages?
thanks…February 19, 2016 at 5:42 am #803142Hi Leanna,
#1: Sitemap xml file may not appear immediately after activating the plugin. You can try again after creating a few posts/pages. http://prntscr.com/a58s5x
You need to set tags for homepage and blog page under SEO > Title & Meta in your WordPress dashboard. For more information, refer to the plugins documentation.
#2: No you don’t need to specify that. However, you’ll need to set basic meta tags settings under SEO > Title & Meta in your WordPress dashboard.
#3: You don’t need to switch to standard editor to edit tags. Yoast has its separate section (see: http://prntscr.com/a58xdm).
Thanks!
February 19, 2016 at 9:38 am #803391ok got it. I see have to go into the “Yoast SEO” section in each page and change the gibberish under “seo snippet” to a nice meta tag, and add a “focus keyword” for the page, right? See screenshot of what appears on each of my pages – gibberish under the page title.
February 19, 2016 at 11:48 pm #804194Hi Leanna,
You have to manually edit it. It’s SEO Yoast’s new standard. The content isn’t picked from page/post content anymore. But it will use the dummy content from the text editor. Hence, you’ll need to manually edit it to change it.
Please check this, https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/3632
(2) Descriptions are now edited right in snippet editor (“Modify your meta description by editing it right here”).
Thanks!
February 20, 2016 at 7:57 pm #8049311) I just read that if the same keyword appears in title, url, first line of text, and focus keyword etc, search engines will call that “keyword stuffing.” However Yoast won’t give me a green light unless all the keywords in each of those areas match identically. So I’m confused… should I make the title, URL and focus keyword all contain the same keyword string or not?
2) Also a post I read says I should make the URl contain alot of keywords but then the URL gets long. See http://www.tellasia.org/about-us-rescue-educate-disciple-empower/
3) Working on the same “about-us” page, yoast says “The keyword density is 0%, which is a bit low; the focus keyword was found 0 times” however I have a great deal of text on the page so I’m not sure why it is saying “keyword density zero.” What should I change?
4) At http://www.tellasia.org/about-us-rescue-educate-disciple-empower/finances-governance Yost says page is missing alt tags even though I have added all the alt tags.

Thanks for updating. You can consult with a SEO specialist to make them more effective for SEO. Unfortunately it’s not related to X and out of our support scope.
Cheers!
