I’ve created a Revolution Slider with several slides that each have an MP4 video on an HTML5 Video Layer. The slider and videos work great on everything except for iOS devices.

    The site is:

    Thanks for your assistance.

In addition… I just got a message from our web host regarding a vulnerability in Revolution Slider. They require that I have the plug-in updated to version 4.6.5 by December 28th to avoid being shut down.

Have you updated this in your most current Theme package? How is the best and quickest way to update Slider Revolution without messing anything up with the site?

    Thanks Again.

Hey Rick, I’m on an iPad 3 and it seems to be working fine on my end. Unless I am suppose to be seeing something else.

Interesting. I tested on an iPhone 5s and an iPhone 6 and the video didn’t load.

When the page loads, the first slide is fine since there is no video. When you scroll left or right (or wait for it to scroll automatically), the subsequent slides have video in the background. The videos load in all the browsers I’ve tested except for on iPhone 5s (iOS 7.1.2) and iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1.2). I hope that helps.

    Hi Rick,

    Thanks for writing in!

Regarding the revolution slider vulnerability issue, we have included the patched version of Revolution Slider in X since April of 2014. If you have updated your theme/plugins since then you are fine. If not, it is definitely advisable to update to the latest version of the theme/plugins. You can get the latest version from your ThemeForest download page: http://themeforest.net/downloads/ and there is a Knowledge Base article in our member center on updating manually: https://theme.co/x/member/kb/updating-your-theme-and-plugins/ or you can validate your product and update automatically. More info on that can be found in the Knowledge Base under Addons (the Product Validation resource: https://theme.co/x/member/kb/product-validation/)

Regarding the video issue on mobiles, would you mind providing us with some more details, i.e., are you using video poster image for mobiles (see: http://prntscr.com/5ht2xd)?

    Thanks!

Thank you for the update. I just got word from our web host provider, Bluehost, yesterday that Revolution Slider should be updated to version 4.6.5. I updated the theme in the last two weeks and it says I have version 4.6.0 of the plug in.

    Revolution Slider Version

Are there plans to upgrade to 4.6.5 within X Theme? Is there some extenuating circumstance that I should communicate to our web host?

    Thanks!

    Regarding Revolution Slider:

I have set the video settings to include a poster image along with the MP4 video. Here are my settings:
    Slide Settings
    Video Settings

On IE, Safari and Chrome, the videos work great. On Firefox and iPad, the videos don’t work but are replaced by the Poster images. On iPhone there is no video or poster image, just a white background.

I’m up against a tight launch deadline, so any help you can offer is much appreciated!!!

Update: I’ve converted the video to .m4v, .webm & .ogv formats and loaded them all in the video settings. That fixed the issue on Firefox. iPad still shows a static poster screen and iPhone still shows a white screen.

    Thanks!

Update: So it looks like the iPad is honoring the Poster image from the video layer, but not playing the video. The iPhone completely ignores the video layer settings. iPhone only honors the “Slider Main Image/Background” settings.

So, I’ve setup the video layer with the poster image AND set up the Slider Main Image/Background with the same poster image. That seems to give me the static poster image on all iOS devices.

Is there a reason that video would be deactivated on mobile devices by default?

    Hi there,

We disable the background video for a few development reason on mobile devices, among them are performance. When downloading this resources on mobile devices it can really intensive, specially on lesser data plans. So we turn that off and in place of the video, you can take maybe a screenshot of the video or just something that works in place off it that will work on mobile devices and still give the same visual impact. But wont take quiet big amount of data that it takes to download that video to your phone.

Please don’t hesitate to write us again if you have other questions regarding the theme, and were more than happy to answer that.

    Cheers.

Thank you. That is what I figured, but I wanted to see if it was just me.

Also, please let me know about updating to Revolution Slider to 4.6.5 (note entry and screen shots above). I updated the theme in the last few weeks and Revolution Slider is still noted as 4.6.0.

My web host is telling me they will deactivate the plugin on my account if I’m don’t have 4.6.5 installed by December 28th.

Thanks again for all of your help!

You guys are the BEST! Thank you for maintaining such an amazing theme, even when it involves dealing with perceptions instead of reality. I’ll look forward to the theme update.
